Book Description

4 May 2006 Knight Miscellany (Book 4)
Impetuous beauty Lady Jacinda Knight is the daughter of a notorious woman. Her mother - Georgiana, the Duchess of Hawkscliffe - had scandalised society with her affairs and exploits, earning her the moniker of the Hawkscliffe Harlot. All her life Jacinda has been aware that the eyes of the ton are upon her - waiting for her to reveal her true colours and follow in her disgraced mother's footsteps. Now - faced with the prospect of an arranged and loveless marriage - Jacinda may well be about to prove her critics right. Running from her fate, Jacinda finds herself alone on a dangerous street face-to-face with Billy Blade, the notorious leader of a band of thieves. Jacinda finds herself dangerously attracted to the handsome, mysterious rogue and only just escapes the experience with her reputation intact. But Billy is no ordinary criminal. Years before he had turned his back on the privilege and power of his tyrannical father, the Earl of Rackford. He regarded giving up his wealth and position a small price to pay for the freedom he currently enjoys. But Jacinda makes him contemplate the unthinkable - returning to the civilised world to reclaim his title.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting and Romantic 23 Jan 2003
By Ms. C. M. Winton VINE VOICE
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This is the forth book in the Knight family series and is just as good as the others. This one is the story of Lady Jacinda Knight and Billy Blade who you may remember from Lord of Ice.
Jacinda the only daughter of a scandalous women noted for her many lovers is determined not to follow in her mother's footsteps but that does not mean that she will marry where her family tells her to. She decides to runaway. However things go wrong when she is robbed and lead into an allyway in the streets of London. There she wittnesses a brutal street fight and comes face to face with the well known scoundrel Billy Blade.
Blade has lived half his life on the streets and has never seen anything as beautiful as Jacinda. He is drawn to her against his will but even theifs have honour and he knows that dispite her protests he has to return her to her family. However once she is gone he can not stop thinking about her and walks stright into a trap set up by his enemies. Thiefs and criminals fate is normally to hang but he knows only one way out and that is to make a devils bargin. He must now enter Jacinda's world against his will and dispite thier past Jacinda decides to help him fit in. But can he win this lady's heart or is she still to far out of his reach.
The first half of this book was brilliant. I loved the discription of the rookery life in the dark streets of London. Blade was the leader of one gang even when leaving the rookery he was determined to kill his rivel. The second half of the book was more what you expect from historical romance showing you the glittering world of the ton. I like Gaelen Foley's Lady of Desire as it show you a different side to London in the early 1800's. She doesn't seperate the two worlds of the rich and poor but blends them togetner to make an exciting and romantic tale.

The only female member of the Knight family gets her own book...

You have to suspend your disbelief a little to accept the premise of a book which has a lady fall for a thief - and a thief who is more than he seems at that. However, once you do this is terrific fun and fairly zips along...

Also found this more light-hearted than the author usually is but it does have an interesting setting amid the Regency underworld of criminal gangs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow 7 Mar 2004

I have just finished this book and wanted to say it was wonderful.
Its refreshing to read more of the male character's feelings. The tale of Billy Blade and Jacinda Knight is the 4th in the Knight series and again Gaelen Foley has written a great story.

I purchased two books by this author at the same time - I was taken by the very quaint and attractive covers. (rather than the very un-original titles used) I like historical fiction of any kind, and these looked just up my street! However, having got off to a great start with a very exciting and very different beginning than what one usually expects from your typical historical romance, the story began to wane a little at about the halfway stage, when the author begins to utilise the age-old scenario of 'love-hate' as the main cause for attraction between the man and the woman... It was still enjoyable, but I think the story could have been less tedious if it had been somewhat curtailed, as having reached the last eighty or so pages, I've become bored with it, and decided to give it up. Despite all this, I shall still attempt to read the second title I purchased by this writer at some time in the future, but not for awhile at least.

One of the most irritating things about American publications, is their appallingly bad way of spelling, which really gets me down... Another aspect of this is the phraseology used also. For the most part this is acceptable here, but some phrases and sayings do occasionally seem rather out of place for a regency period English narrative, and some of them used in just a little of the dialogue are distinctly from a more modern culture.
