Along with It's a Wonderful Life, this is my favourite Capra movie. Although made back in the 30s, it is still hilarious, featuring marvellous performances, especially by May Robson as Apple Annie and Warren Willam as Dave the Dude. The plot is taken from a Damon Runyan story and is rather corny (gangsters decide to help an elderly apple seller become a lady for a day to impress her daughter and her fiance), but great fun. Look out for the bra-less dancing sequence and the gay Frenchman joke (not something I expeceted to see in a Capra film). The cinematography is brilliant. I saw this in a cinema in Paris and the scenes at night filmed by a fountain are beautiful. If you are rather sentimental, this will make you cry as well as laugh. Sadly, I will not be able to buy this DVD, as it is in N. American format, but if I could I would pay a fortune for it.
