The Warrior Maids of Rivenloch...Damsels in shining armor...riding to the rescue!  Deirdre, Helena, and Miriel, three kick-arse Scots wenches known as The Warrior Maids of Rivenloch, aren’t about to become any man’s chattel, until they meet heroes who are strong enough to tame their wild ways and worthy enough to win their wayward hearts.

Born to the blade and raised to fear no one, Deirdre of Rivenloch never shies away from a fight and never turns her back on a threat to her land or her family.  But she’s never met a man like Sir Pagan Cameliard, the bold and powerful knight who comes at the king’s command to make a marriage alliance with Rivenloch.  To save her younger sister, Deirdre tricks Pagan into marrying her instead, and now she faces a new kind of enemy who crosses swords with her by day and lays siege to her heart by night.

About Glynnis Campbell

When she's not writing swashbuckling historical romances and playing medieval matchmaker, USA Today bestselling author Glynnis Campbell is a cartoon voice, the wife of a rock star, and the mother of two young adults. She's been a ballerina, a typographer, a film composer, a piano player, a singer in an all-girl rock band, and a voice in those violent video games you won't let your kids play. She does her best writing on cruise ships, in Scottish castles, on her husband's tour bus, and at home in her sunny southern California garden. Glynnis loves transporting readers to a place where the bold heroes have endearing flaws, the women are stronger than they look, the land is lush and untamed, and chivalry is far from dead!

5.0 out of 5 stars brilliant! 6 Nov. 2007
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I found this book a great read and couldn't put it down. Deirdre of Rivenloch tricks pagan Cameliard into marrying her to save her little sister. Not realising she has met her match in her new husband. For pagan has made a vow that he will best his sword weilding bride and win her with passion. The book is funny especially the banter between the sisters and the two warriors. A great read and I would reccomend it to anyone. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.

3.0 out of 5 stars I Must Be Getting More Difficult To Please 13 Jan. 2015
Format:Kindle Edition
I must be getting more difficult to please. I did enjoy this book but no way to the extent of 5 stars and stand amazed at the four and five star reviews handed out for this book. Even though I love strong female warrior types, I thought that Deidre's and Helena's mentality was absolutely over the top unrealistic. Not relative to their warrior attitude, their practicing, their skills, but in the way that both women felt they were the equal of any man when it came to "winning" even in the physical realm. There's absolutely no way and of course Pagan eventually revealed this truth to Deidre.

I did enjoy Pagan's courtship of Deidre. However, I must confess to strongly disliking the cavalier attitude of sex as it relates to these types of stories. It's almost like the vast majority of men and obviously many "easy" women considered their sexual lives similar to dogs or other animals - just mindless sex and lying with the nearest willing warrior or wench. Perhaps during the medieval ages, it was so - especially for men and lightskirts. Still, I would suspect disease would have been rampant. In these stories, of course, our lusty warrior hero types NEVER, ABSOLUTELY, NEVER suffer from such things as the pox, regardless of how many sexual partners they had.

Perhaps my "likes" and what I enjoy relative to these types of stories is undergoing a dramatic change. I just can't give this book more than 3 stars.

3.0 out of 5 stars Didn't enjoy 25 Nov. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Lady Danger, story of three beautiful sisters living in Rivenloch, Scotland. Their father is slowly losing his mind & has taught two of his daughters how to be warriors.
When Pagan is tricked into marrying Deirdre - instead of her young sister Miriel, the newlyweds clash at every turn & Deirdre refuses to give into temptation.
I am Scottish, I like stories of knights & brave warriors but unfortunately this plot dragged on, I cringed at the sex scenes - they too dragged on with the "will they/won't they" & got frustrated with Deirdre & Pagan's childish feuding.
He broke her sword, which she'd had since childhood, as she refused to stop sparring. She locked herself in a room because she was upset & her husband smashed the door down, with an axe. Pagan came across as a bully & Deirdre was an annoying heroine, suspicious of everyone & everything for reasons best known to herself.
The only action came at the end & by then I had lost all interest.
Favourite phrases of author seem to be "God's blood" & "bloody hell"....
Won't be reading rest of series, far too slow & struggles along.

A great little free read that has spiked my interest in the author and her other titles. Indeed I have already downloaded the other 2 titles in the series and can't wait to get stuck in.

The historical details such as the clothing worn, food eaten and customs seemed to be accurate (hey I am not an expert) and certainly added depth and colour to the tale. The characters were really interesting and I loved the battle Deidre had in confronting her feelings and Pagan's handling of their relationship. The dialogue between the sisters was funny and reminded me of my own relationships with my siblings.

Nice bit of action that kept the story ticking over at a good pace.

I would recommend this to anyone who likes a historical romance.

A great bawdy romp, very well written and realised as well as being full of good humour and witty ripostes. Looking forward to the next instalment.

Didn't really expect to like this book I got it because it was free and gave it a go. I loved it couldn't put it down. Kept reading "just one more chapter". I liked all the characters and the story was good. I bought the other two and read them just as quick.
