Book Description

2 Jun 2011

Thirty years after she first heard his voice singing to her from a jukebox at her local drive-in, Barbara began her love affair with Frank Sinatra. After a tempestuous courtship, she finally heard him say the wedding vows that began his fourth, final, and most enduring marriage; one that would last more than two decades until the end of his life. Generous and jealous, witty and wicked, Frank comes alive in this poignant inside story of the highs and lows of marriage to one of the world's most famous men. In this, her first public love letter to the husband she adored, his wife celebrates the sensational singer, sexy heartthrob, possessive mate, and loyal friend that was Frank Sinatra.

This book will let his legions of fans see another side of "Ol' Blue Eyes." Though Frank Sinatra's children have written memoirs about their father, this is the first time his wife of twenty-two years is sharing intimate details of life with the man and the legend.

Review

The widow of Frank Sinatra delivers the goods in this intimate memoir of their years tiogether... Probing Sinatra's personality, she contrasts his polite manners and loyalty to friends with his feuds and booze-induced rants. Yet in the end, as she sees it, 'Frank was the most romantic man I ever met,' and that feeling permeates the pages throughout. (Publishers' Weekly )

An engaging read (Mail on Sunday )

Barbara Sinatra, the singer's final - and longest-serving - wife, has written a revealing memoir of their fiery days and nights (Telegraph )

At its heart, this autobiography is a simple story of an enduring love affair, and the unprecedented glimpse is less about the man who has already been dissected in dozens of books, and more about a woman whom the reader quickly discovers is quite interesting in her own right . . . Frank Sinatra lived 82 years, dying in Barbara's arms more than a decade ago. After reading this book, it's easy to conclude that he was the lucky one for finding such a strong, wise and fun-loving soul mate. (Denver Post )

Barbara Sinatra has turned in a genuine love story about the man with whom she shared a life. (Chicago Sun Times )

Book Description

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing 2 Aug 2011
Format:Hardcover
Sadly I cannot agree with the other reviewers.
I have been a life long fan of Frank Sinatra & his music, & I have enjoyed a number of books already written about him - the good, the bad & the ugly!
However there hasn't been a book written by someone so close to the great man so I was really looking forward to this & even broke my own rules by buying the hard back.
In essence I thought that this book was badly written & vacuous, focusing too much on Barbara & her life (which seems to be a series of tedious name drops & not what I bought the book for, lovely lady as she seems to be).
I so wanted to enjoy this but I ended up skimming through the chapters to reach the end.
Not for me. Sorry.

1.0 out of 5 stars The Tender Trap 20 Aug 2011
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
If ever there was a biography that painted a picture as the artist wanted to see it, it is this one. So, Frank never had 2 daughters or grand-children that he adored? Read this book and you won't find one word about them - in fact, their names don't even appear once !
When I first read Tina Sinatra's book entitled 'My Father's Daughter', I wondered if there was some exaggeration about her view of her step-mother. This book does nothing to make me feel that the last Mrs Sinatra was all she makes out she was.
The book is mostly slanted to all the 'good works' she has done and, although her husband covered most of the costs of donations, she seems to take the glory.
I do not think this book is a truthful or fair account of Frank's last 20 or so years of life and I recommend anyone who is really interested to read James Kaplan's 'FRANK' which documents his life up until 1954 and to wait for the second part due in 3 years or so where I am sure we will get the real story of those later years.
Above all Frank was an 'honest' man, this is not the book he would have wanted written.
