Having read about this film online for a while I was pleased to see it had finally been officially released, albeit it only on region 1 DVD. If you're reading this I assume you already know the basic premise (band formed, band gets huge, band splits up), and I feel that it does a good job of capturing the mass hysteria and sudden rise to varying levels of fame that occurred with many punk rock bands e.g. New York Dolls, Sex Pistols, The Plasmatics etc and at the same time makes for a very entertaining film. It stars a young Ray Winstone and Diane Lane, both of whom put in top notch performances, as the front man of punk band The Looters (made up of The Clash's Paul Simonon and the Sex Pistols' Steve Jones and Paul Cook) and the lead singer of The Stains respectively. Acting alongside them as the vocalist of the Spinal Tap-esque Metal Corpses is The Tubes' Fee Waybill of `White Punks On Dope' fame, who again portrays his character of a washed up rock star very well, making you at times wish him failure and at others feel sorry for him. Also making a cameo is L.A. funk punk legend Black Randy who along with his Metrosquad lip syncs to his `hit' single `I Slept In An Arcade' before ending up in a scuffle with Winstone's character backstage at a performance. Overall I'd say this film is worth at least one watch if only for historical value, but if you're into punk rock I thoroughly recommend purchasing this DVD as it's good fun and features enough real life musicians to make it vaguely believable, even if the ending is ridiculous!!!
