Manufacturer's Description

In Deponia, the world has degenerated into a vast garbage dump, in which the crotchety Rufus ekes out his sorry existence. He is part of the lowest social class, doomed to live his life in literal mountains of trash. He hopes for an opportunity to get into the world of the rich, who live in floating cities high above the clouds. Fate seems to smile on the snotty good-for-nothing when one day the attractive lady named Goal from the higher sectors plummets into one of the trash heaps. Rufus decides to help the young woman out by taking her back to her husband. When he notices that Goal’s husband is a dead ringer for himself, he hatches a diabolical scheme to gain access to the upper world. However, things don’t work out quite as planned, since he has feelings for the beauty which limit his usual unscrupulousness.

The twist-filled story takes its off-beat characters all over trash planet Deponia, a unique game world in the style of Douglas Adams, Terry Pratchett and Matt Groening. From Kuvaq, an improvised village built inside a giant trash heap, to the swimming black market and the dark corners of the elevated planetary railways: Deponia is brought to life with detailed hand-painted backgrounds in widescreen format and top-quality cartoon animation combined nine chapters featuring many exciting plot twists.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's Ok but it's no Monkey Island 25 Feb 2013

I love point and click adventures and all in all this one is just about OK. The story line is reasonable and I did like the little twist at the end. The art work is nice enough too. What I didn't like was the length of the dialogue. The characters have much to much to say and some of the corny voice acting gets a little boring. Another big problem is that the main character just isn't very likable and you feel like your helping this guy succeed when really you'd rather he didn't! Some of the puzzle solutions are a bit obscure too and I had to resort to a walk through on a couple of occasions. I also found the game quite buggy with disappearing artwork to the point where at one stage the screen was almost completely black. Worth buying if you find it reasonably priced.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Steampunk Monkey Island 13 Aug 2012
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
What can i say about this game, other than I had more fun playing this 2D puzzel game than half of the newest high graphic consule games I have played over that last few months.
The character's are brillient and engaging and just twisted enough that you can really fell yourself disliking them. This include your amoral protagonist by the way and all of them will serve to make those infuriating hours you spend on a hard puzzel hardly noticable.
If you loved Monkey Island, as I did, then you will love this game and much like Monkey Island you will be joining figgiting for the next few months waiting for the next game in the series to get translated.
Try this game if you love to be challenged mentally and laugh while doing it.

4.0 out of 5 stars eccentric heroes on a comedy adventure 7 Sep 2012

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Deponia is about the adventures of Rufus,a guy with illusions of self-importance and grandeur, who lives on Deponia,a place filled with garbage.Even filled with garbage, people live there but Rufus thinks he should be in Elysium.A place for the privileged and only them.A place where you can go only by one way.And that way is by some kind of train which is guarded by the Organon. An organisation meant for order but turned evil. One day Rufus makes it to the train-like thing but gets thrown back to Deponia but not alone.Goal,a girl from Elysium,is thrown with him. This adventure is about Rufus trying to help both Goal and himself by getting them to Elysium. But there are obstacles along the way.....

A lot of fun to play with very good puzzles.Awesome backgrounds and whacky character sprites.A very good game all in all....looking forward to the second.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Rubbish! 26 April 2013

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
The game is set on the rubbish strewn planet of Deponia - the main character, Rufus, is desperate to leave and think he sees his chance when a beautiful girl from Elysium falls down to the planet. Rufus is an engaging character in spite of his many faults and many of his conversations made me laugh out loud. All the people you meet are fun to talk to and the whole game is very reminiscent of Whispered World. It does have faults. It's insanely difficult at times, as even though it's just a matter of mixing stuff in the inventory it's not at all obvious what you have to do. Sometimes people need to be spoken to in the right order and the mini games are very, very difficult. I did get fed up with having to keep checking a walkthrough as I had no idea what to do and it all got very frustrating. Also I feel the game ended rather abruptly and could have done with being longer. It was only the fact that it was so difficult at times that made it last a decent length of time, otherwise it would have been very short indeed. Four stars is probably being a bit generous but I liked the humour and the graphics and I've been struggling to find a decent game lately so I'm grateful for anything.

Oh it is so good to to play this game and get involved with the characters and their witty remarks. I will certainly play this game again. Looking forward to Deponia II which comes out in a few weeks - I'm buying it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excelent point and click Adventure 11 Dec 2012

The best and most fun Adventure game I've played in years! Imaginative characters, fun ridles (some of them really hard) and a storyline that has enough twists to keep you playing!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good fun 27 Nov 2012

I like point and click adventures, especially ones which can make me smile from time to time (it is supposed to be a game!).
I liked this game. Puzzles are not too difficult, not too much tedious walking from one scene to another, only to have to go back three or four times to collect something you need. Good value and worth a go.

1.0 out of 5 stars I didn't like this at all 28 Dec 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase
Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
I started playing this game and found the character of Rufus too unpleasant to be bothered to try to carry on. I gave up and consign this to the garbage heap that Deponia is set on.
I had previously played Edna and Harvey (Deponia is described as the successor to this in the product description). I had enjoyed that and there is no similarity between the two games.
