5.0 out of 5 stars A collection of lace fans 1 July 2005
Format:Paperback
This book is an exquisitely photographed album of pictures and patterns of lace fans designed by Ann Collier. Many of the fans are in coloured lace and a whole range of techniques are used including needle and bobbin laces. Patterns are included for some of the fans but the book serves more as a breathtakingly beautiful album of Ms Collier's work. The patterns are also not for beginners and the instructions given require that you know what to do without a lot of detail.
I can still recommend this one as you will enjoy looking at the wonderful fans and wondering how on earth the author found time to make so many let alone design them all!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Lace 17 Oct 2010
By Carol
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book was well worth the purchase. It is full of gorgeous patterns for lace fans I don't know where to start. Luckily I belong to a lace group as I am not experienced enough to tackle these on my own. Not for the fainthearted to do but also makes a lovely book just to look at and hope to do one day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book 7 Sep 2011
By Katelyn Schreyer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book has brilliant full color, full page images of the lace fans that the author has created.

She mixes and matches techniques ranging from bobbin lace to needlelace to tenefire to crossstitch to create amazing designs and patterns. For several of the fans she provides patterns and detailed instructions, for others will just mention the techniques used, and an experienced lacemaker should be able to figure the rest out.

As a bobbin lace beginner, I found the patterns intimidating but not incomprehensible. Were I more comfortable and experienced with lacemaking (and if I had enough bobbins!) I would not hesitate to attempt some of the patterns contained here.

My only question that remains is: Where does she get all the gorgous fan sticks!? I feel it would be a shame to make such an intricate fan leaf, only to glue it to a set of plastic sticks torn from a $5 novelty fan sold here on Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous book for crafters or art lovers 28 April 2003
By Gail Martin - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
If you're a lacemaker, embroiderer, or simply appreciate great textile crafts you'll enjoy this book. Collier offers photographs and diagrams of an amazing range of handmade lace fans. Instructions are given for enough of them that a decent lacemaker could figure out how to make the others, or variations of them. A book to spur your creativity, or just put a smile on your face.
