For the money-superb!, 17 Mar 2004
Bought these speakers based upon the only other review on here, and after looking at the Labtec website. I'm basing everything i put here on value for money. The build quality of the satellites and the woofer especially is excellent, they put some higher priced sets to shame to be frank (I do know: Ive been around all the usual shops having a nosey at various brands/models). There's also a reassuring heft to the units. But one thing im not so keen on in this criteria is the satellite stands, at higher volumes, or bassy volumes they tend to move slightly, which is a bit disconcerting and can put you off whatever you're doing. Now to sound quality, its good. nuff said really, for a set of speakers that cost £100 it would be good, for a set costing less than £40, its excellent, trust me on this, i listen to anything from Metallica, to N.W.A, to the Commodores, and the speakers cover from bass to high range very well. Aesthetically, they're subtle and pretty un-assuming really, except for the labtec badge on the front (if this had've been on the side or back i would have preferred it) but this is only a very slight minus, afterall, who buys speakers for where the brand-badge is? The only thing i don't like about this set is the volume and bass controls are on the side of the subwoofer. This doesn't make sense to me, as the subwoofer is going to be placed on the floor, and as you don't get a remote control with them, its a real pain to change the volume/bass, especially if you need to do so quickly (if someone walks in the room, or the phone rings) but thats my only winge, well worth the money, and more.
