Book Description

2 Feb 2012
This beautiful new book of functional, stylish designs for little girls contains over 20 unique knitting patterns for sweaters, cardigans, dresses and tops, skirts and snoods and charming accessories. Combining true comfort with contemporary design, in a world where time is precious and clothes are often mass-produced, Danish knitwear designer Vibe Ulrik Sondergaard has produced a delightful range of garments that are definitely worth investing time into. Many of the designs focus on texture and shape in solid colours, and all aim to be functional for active children. They are feminine but not too childish in look and feel. Beautiful stitches, quirky details, classic shapes and lush yarns are combined to inspire others to create their own 'Labour of Love'. Word count: 19,500

4.0 out of 5 stars Labour of Love. ERROR SOLVED. 19 May 2012

Labour of Love is a beautiful book. Printed on quality paper, lovely photos.
The 20 patterns for girls -aged 3-4, 5-6, 7-8 yrears old, include sweaters, which many are cabled.. Lacy cardigans with curved bottoms, waistcoats, lacy wrap scarves, and a gorgeous cable dress.

The Isabel Cable and Branch Dress has a pattern error in it. I have been in touch with the printers who passed my discovery to Vibe Ulrik Sondergaard who is the author. Vibe e-mailed me with the correction for the dress and here it is:

Back:
An additional 2 rows need to be added in the end:
Row 33. Knit as row 21
Row 34. Knit purl stitches and purl knit stitches of previous row as they appear.
Repeat rows 11-34 (NOT 9-11 ) until work measures.............

Front:
An additional 2 rows need to be added in the end:
Row 33: P4, K10, p6,k2, p1, k2, p2, k3, C6FP, C6BP, k3, p2, k2, p1, k2, p6, k10, p4,.

Row34: Knit purl stitches and purl knit stitches of previous ow as they appear.
Repeat rows 11-34 (NOT 9-32) until work measures ..........

So, if you find an error in a pattern please contact the printers who in turn 'may' pass on your concerns to the author, as they did in my case, NOW EVERYONE CAN BENEFIT, that's if you want to knit this beautiful dress, I know I do......

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful knits for Beautiful girls 2 Feb 2012

I usually buy my knitting books because I've managed to find one pattern I want to do. This book is just full of patterns I want to make, in fact I'm struggling to find one that I don't want to do! I just wish the patterns would fit me....
All patterns come with several photographs of the finished item so you get a good idea of what you're making unlike some books where you have to guess what the back looks like.
The book is unusual for a pattern book in that it's hardback and full of beautiful photos of Vibe's native Denmark so it looks good on the coffee table as well as in the knitting basket.
I can't recommend it highly enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars One not to miss!!! 16 Feb 2012

Sumptuous photography and beautiful patterns are contained in this hard back volume.I don't have any children but when I saw the preview for this book I just had to buy it.There's a good assortment of patterns which are divided in to sections such as Sweaters cardigans , dressings and stops , skirts and snoods and charming accessories.I have a very tiny chest measurements so I'm sure that some of these beautiful patterns could be adapted to fit.Specially liked that there are a good range of stitches and textures to the patterns.

This is a fantastic book, full of adorable patterns that are easy to follow. I fully recommend it both as an aid to knitting but as a beautifully presented and well written title.
