Labgear FV300,

Bought this for a relative who wanted an easy to use freeview receiver. Tried it out on my TV first. Plugs directly into a free mains socket and does not use a mains adaptor like some others. The unit is in a metal topped case with ventilation slots. I ran it for several hours & it got just slightly warm & when I switched it into standby using the remote it stayed completely cold. One scart lead included in the box with the remote & instructions. After connecting the mains & scart I powered on the unit. The on-off switch on the front feels quite positive. My TV showed a blue start up screen and asked me to press OK on the remote to start scanning for channels. A progress bar is shown on the screen & the scan completed in about 3 minutes. Teletext / red button was faster loading than my Sky box but the EPG took a few moments to update itself. The setup menu was easy & straightforward. Picture quality was good on freeview but there was a little picture break up for just one or two seconds after channel changing while it locks to the channel but it is stable following this. There is a Pause button which allows you to freeze the picture on screen - but remember the programme is still carrying on so when you come out of pause 5 minutes later, you will be five minutes further into the programme - it should really be called a picture freeze button. I did not try them out but noticed there is a timer which can be set from the EPG and also a programme reminder function which will alert you when a programme is about to start which is a useful feature along with a recall button allowing you to go back to the last channel you were watching. Overall, it seems to be a well thought out box & I am thinking of buying a couple more for around my home.

I purchased this for an old portable TV , which is situated in our bedroom. A very easy box to set up and connect to a DVD player. The picture obtained was excellent , far better than the old picture.

Big TV Shop delivered this within 24 hours of ordering - the quickest delivery I have ever experienced, and it was post free. Labgear set top boxes are easily the best on the market. I bought another recently with an RF modulator (FV400) for a Scartless TV, and chose this to replace an old Scart based set top box that was playing up. Super easy set up, great picture and smooth operation. Forget other makes and go with Labgear - great quality and cracking value.
