I have been looking at various hard drives and media streamer and saw the model below this one in the crew room at work. It has been there for over 10 months now and working solid for 24 Hrs 7 days a week if there is nothing on the British Forces Broadcasting Service TV. It is in Afghanistan which is a very inhospitable environment hot and dusty and has not let us down just the white symbols are waring on the remote, but considering the use it gets that it nothing to worry about back in the UK. So if it can survive out here I am sure mine will survive at home in the UK.The menu screen is simple and effective and you decide the file structure on your computer it was so easy to set up. As well as all the media it will hold Data from the computer something they do not mention.

This is a great product which makes playing your media through your HD TV very simple. I've previously tried various DNLA media servers streaming media to my TV's ethernet port using my Powerline home network, but found it temperamental and the formats supported very limited (e.g. only MP3 audio files). However, the LaCie supports a variety of formats and delivers them effortlessly in excellent quality to my Sony Bravia TV. The price is extremely competitive just for the hard disk, but with the built-in media server, HDMI and USB ports is great value for money. I found setting it up relatively simple, I connected it via USB to my existing PC and copied my media files across, before linking it to the TV and my home network. Now I simply copy new media from my PC over the network to the LaCinema, so it always has the latest material and also acts as a backup.

Purchased this drive to archive TV programmes off our Humax FoxSat box. Sadly, no one could, pre-purchase, advise clearly and confidently - not even Humax and LaCie staff - as to whether the PVR and the drive were compatible re archiving TV programmes and how to proceed. The drive's literature carries a great deal of info, but you need to be a good, confident and competent 'techie' to understand it all! How about some basic info when promoting such a complex drive?Currently managed to archive family photographs along with video clips. 'Am still struggling with archiving TV programmes from the Humax though! A quality 5-star LaCie drive that works well even via Wi-fi using a Linksys by Cisco WUSB600N Wireless-N USB Network Adapter with Dual-Band and set up was very easy. No regrets buying it and will persevere to get the LaCinema drive, PVR and HDTV to work together! Finally, build...... I'm confident that the technology bits are well assembled onto the chassis, but the plastic casing leaves a little to be desired in terms of improved protection and handling. Not quite 100% LaCie casing quality hence the 4 stars!
