Superb ... I have previously bought (and regretted) cheaper USB disk drives to use as backup devices - these have all been proved too delicate to stand reasonable work (often wedding or industrial photography 'on venue' backup.) My 'work based' working external hard drives are IEEE Lacie products ( 1 x 500MB and 2 x 250MB) - and having owned these Lacie disks for some years for use as general storage, they have proved great value, and so I was persuaded to try the Lacie Rugged 1TB drive. So far my new USB drive has proved just as rugged as it's predecessors with the advantage of USB freedom. This drive also comes complete with 'USB' booster software, which does seem to increase transfer rates. I am a pleased bunny.LaCie Starck Desktop Hard Drive 1TB

I bought this Drive after I had several smaller, cheaper drives go corrupt on me losing over 500GBs worth of data. This drive is sturdy and works fine straight out of the box. Orange colour is a bit lurid buy hey you can't have everything.
However, I bought it with the hard drive holder reccomended by Amazon and as advertised on this page (Caselogic Small Hard Drive Case - Black) - DON'T BOTHER!! The drive itself measures 8inches x 4 inches, the case that Amazon advertises it with measures 5inches x 3.5 inches! They clearly do not belong together, so save yourself a few quid and just buy the drive itself.
Something else I didn't realise is that it is mains operated - i.e. has to be plugged into a wall socket. Find if you want to use it as a static station on your desk (like me) but not so good if you need a highly portable drive to work with a laptop.
Also, like with all these products, it is not actually 1000GB (1TB) as advertised, it can hold 930GBs.
Overall, great drive, easy to use, still tons of space.

Amazon Verified Purchase
It's not bad, I'm sure as a drive to sit on your desk it's great, but it's limited connectivity was the deal-breaker for me. Very good price for the amount of storage. I much prefer the smaller LaCie rugged, much more versatile. If you just need lots of storage in a funky package that sits along side your computer this is it. Moving around between different devices and computers, this is not it ( in my opinion....)
