Excellent Quality,

This review is from: LaCie Quadra 2TB USB Hard Disk (Personal Computers)
I don't know why this product is described as a USB device when it has three other interfaces as well: Firewire 400, Firewire 800 and eSATA.
It's very well engineered with a perforated metal chassis and an adequate heat sink, which means it doesn't need a fan. So, there's no irritating noise or vibration and it's quick to spin up on demand. Also, I know that LaCie drives tend to last years without fault, making the quality well worth paying for. I'm giving it five stars for product quality, but if it's speed you're after then I'd think carefully before paying the price, considering that most system setups won't be able to take advantage of it and considering that the USB-only version is much less expensive.

Excellent Buy. No Issues,

This review is from: LaCie Quadra 2TB USB Hard Disk (Personal Computers)
Spent a while researching which 2TB External Disk I needed. Its purpose was to assist backing up some of my important files from my NAS box, so I had a few critical criteria: Needed to be 2TB, Needed to be flexible in connection (USB & eSata), needed to be small enough to travel with if needed. Lacie is a well-known name but not one I had used in the past. I had always thought of their products as having more style over substance. However this model fitted the bill exactly. It came with the required USB and eSata connections (along with cables for all in the box), is reasonably sized and has 2tb storage capacity. The drive works flawlessly and I was suitably impressed. The disk inside is 7200rpm and is very quiet. Although it is priced at the higher end of the market (there are a fair few others including Western Digital who sell drives cheaper with all the connections), I can see why. Of course it is aesthetically pleasing with the gloss black finish and blue lighting underneath, but the fact it has all these connection types and provides the cables for each - sold it for me. I have used this for over a month now and had no trouble with spin up time, data transfer, noise or speed. Although the drive comes with its own backup software, you aren't "forced" into using it which is nice. Needless to say I give it top marks as a high-end product which does the job well whilst looking pretty on my desk.

Fantastic Plug-n-Play Drive!,

This review is from: LaCie Quadra 2TB USB Hard Disk (Personal Computers)
I've had this drive for 5 months and not a peep or problem from it. Previously I have tried 3 different brands of USB enclosure for hard drives that I already owned and all failed within 3 to 4 months. The drives were fine, but the boxes failed. The Quadra 2TB sits on-obtrusively behind my iMac and just works. Installation was a breeze. Now I have a 1 TB Time Machine backup and a 1TB archive for finished projects. I've gone from Plug-n-Pray to Plug-n-Play and I couldn't be happier, plus the price was a steal!
