Sunny and warm days. An idyllic house near the seaside. A swimming pool. Cigars, whiskey...
Michel Legrand's sensual music in the air...
Alain Delon (Jean Paul) and Romy Schneider ( Marianne), one of the most beautiful women ever filmed, are a couple on
vacation. He is a spoiled, frustrated writer. She? She loves him.
They go through lazy, hot summer days until an old friend comes to visit with his 18 years old daughter ( a terrible actress
that spoils the film a little). The friend, a former lover of Marianne, is invited to stay longer with his daughter and they do so.
The friend is played by Maurice Ronet, who was the main actor in Louis Malle's "The Fire within".
Days are still hot and sunny but now, with the visit, there is friction in the air.
I never watched this 1969 film before and it was a really good experience to watch it for the first time. Good actors ( apart from the
daughter ), good story, good images, good music.
The HD images of this restored copy in blu ray are excellent. The disc has, in high def, the original French version
and also an optional standard version with dialogues in English.
The images of the English version are very good but the images of the original French version, being high def, have even better quality.
The only disappointing thing about this blu ray disc is that Park Circus did not bother to add the commentaries of Jean Claude Carriere,
who adapted for the screen the book of Jean Emmanuel Conil. It seems that many studios making dvds and blu ray discs don't do their best and go only half the way.
PS. The description of the product in Amazon's page is a complete plot spoiler. It is really idiotic. If you didn't read it already, then don't read it. I didn't notice that description
when I ordered the blu ray and could watch and enjoy the film properly. I read the description just now and couldn't believe they did that.
I would also recommend customers who didn't watch the film to avoid the four stars review for now.
It has interesting information but it also has an unwarned plot spoiler that will
take a lot from the pleasure of watching this film.
