5.0 out of 5 stars Astounding 5 Jan 2013

Anyone interested in the voice would or should already be a fan of the divine voice of Philippe Jaroussky. This is a collection of highlights from several concerts over the last several years up to and including 2012. Although still young, Jaroussky has been a jewel in the world of beautiful music for some time. He quite simply has one of the most astoundingly gentle, lyric, pure, controlled and intelligent voices on the planet. A rarity so special that it constantly makes one's jaw drop and one's hair stand on end. Many of these extracts have been seen on Youtube over the years, but here at last is a quality recording of these pieces that does his voice the justice it deserves. Of course there are many many CD's available, but here is also the humour, the charisma and the excitement of live performances from this beautiful man. I bought the Blu-Ray disc specifically so that I would get the best available sound so that I could I pump it through the large speakers attached to my TV and swoon. It is also a generous recording and runs for 2 hours and 40 minutes. It is well titled as The Greatest Moments in Concert.

5.0 out of 5 stars .....if you want atmosphere..... 1 Feb 2013
This perfect and comprehensive collection of concert extracts(33 in all ) between 2006 and 2012 has satisfied my yearning to see the possessor of this angelic voice in performance. It begins with Ensemble Matheus and Vivaldi, a tour de force of expressive pianissimo singing, and the close rapport between Jean-Christophe Spinosa and Jaroussky very evident. Another fruitful partnership has been with Emanuelle Haim ,who leads Le Concert d' Astree in extracts from Handel, with the audience swinging along(4) and Jaroussky in an unforgettable duet with von Otter. Ensemble Artaserse was founded in 2002 by Philippe and friends and performs here in the Hall of Mirrors with lowered chandeliers as a glittering backdrop. His rendering from Alcina(7) is liltingly lyrical and dramatic by turns.By the time we reach the sad, melodic lines of Scherza,infida(10) dusk has fallen and the chandeliers are ablaze. There follows the most exquisite blending of voices in a duet from Monteverdi(11) with Nuria Rial and Christine Pluhar leading L'Arpeggiata; they perform a Handel duet later(17).L'Arpeggiata display some very elongated lutes and misshapen wooden 'horns'(with the most beautiful timbre) in a piece by Rossi(20). There is an amusing sung interruption from two of the male instrumentalists wearing shades (Anon,21)and Pluhar, typically, gives us a jazzed up version of Monteverdi(22),getting rousing cheers from the audience. Another example of the fruitful collaboration between Jaroussky and Pluhar is 'los pajaros perdidos'(23) with its percussive Spanish rhythms. His performance of 'Le lion est mort ce soir' with the unaccompanied voices of the Ebene Quartet(26) morphed into 'Wimaway' which got the audience grooving. Read more ›

5.0 out of 5 stars An Outstanding Voice 11 April 2013

The sound is magnificent and in video (as opposed to CD) Philippe`s passion comes across.Had not heard of him until recently (gave an interview on Aus radio!) but am now looking to buy more of his CDs. I wish he had more Handel/JS Bach/Mozart recordings
The only criticism is that some of the concerts recorded had too low a light level
