Elizabeth thought she married for love and the chance to get out from under her family led her West. Her husband couldn't shake the demons and left her lonely and avoiding brother-in-law Clayton--the lawman with bad intentions. Luckily, she had her wits and when pushed, she made her escape. The plan, simple, break out Boone, the wanted man in jail, and have him get her away as fast as possible. Win-win. He wasn't so sure he wanted a lady slowing him down, but he grudgingly agreed to her plan.

On the run, they realize they need each other to survive various perils. He learned to respect her determination and strength and she learned he wasn't as bad as the reputation that followed him. Along this journey, they find love--real love--the kind that binds a couple on the run. The passion ignites and fuels the love and desire to find a safe haven. One man stands in their way--Clayton. Forced to become La Desperada alongside Boone, they devise a plan to bring him down and for the truth to come out, but Clayton foils their plan. I can't say anything more without spoiling the end.

This is not your grandma's love story of the Old West. This story is well-told in vivid detail that gives you a real feel for the time period. The women who went west were strong and determined and the story of Elizabeth is told as a true woman of the Old West. Survivor. The love story does get steamy and proves that you don't waste time on the run when you find someone. La Desperada doesn't disappoint.

The addition of the award-winning screenplay was a wonderful bonus.

Ms. Burroughs has a new fan! You will enjoy La Desperada, too!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read! 12 April 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Every once-in-a-while, you come across a fellow writer who is so damned good, you want to hate them. Patricia Burroughs is that kind of writer. (Except, she is so funny and nice, you cannot hate her. Dammit.) LA DESPERADA is phenomenal: characters, pacing, story, quality of writing-it has it all, hands down. Read this book. You'll thank me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Recipe for a wonderful story.. 25 Jan 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Ingredients:

2 Main Characters - Elizabeth and Boone, whose desperation and desire fairly leap off the page

4 Secondary Characters who are so well drawn that I cared about them and their well-being almost as much as the main protagonsits

2 Antagonists - One who is evil and twisted enough to be genuinely frightening, and the other who is ambiguous and intriguing

1 Plot that leaps out of the starting gate and doesn't slow down until the race is complete

Mix, season to taste (yes, the love scenes are steamy)

Serve with a bonus of an award-winning screenplay, based on the book.

And there you have it. A great story, with great characters. I'll be hunting for Ms Burroughs' other books!
