New additions to the La Cafetière range, these stylish retro-designed kettles are the perfect accompaniment to any kitchen. Both stylish and practical, the Cotswold kettle comes in both electric and stove-top versions. The electric kettle has an enclosed element in the base and an anti-scale filter which reduces scale build up in hard water areas. The stovetop kettle is suitable for any hob type, including induction. Complete with safety whistle it is just as fast as the electric version given similar conditions. Both kettles are available in satin cream, polished Stainless steel and the limited edition colours of baby pink, baby blue, pastel green and matt black.

A very nicely designed and manufactured retro style kettle, standing out when compared to other similarly priced and designed retro kettles (for example the very similar Prestige <a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Prestige-42331-Deco-Kettle-Almond/dp/B00080KOVM/sr=8-1/qid=1167083267/ref=pd_ka_1/202-7452949-1380614?ie=UTF8&s=kitchen"> Deco </a>) with a (much) better finish (the Prestige's plastic parts are really quite nasty) and nicer ergonomics. Every aspect of the kettle seems to work well and look good - from the mesh scale filter to the slick and smooth on-off button and robust handle.

Only two features mark it down from a five to a four star kettle. The lid is rather tinny and hard to open and close (although this is a characteristic of several kettles of this sort, and if anything the similar <a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/DeLonghi-KBX3015S-Argento-Cordless-Kettle/dp/B0000AE7DH/sr=8-1/qid=1167083927/ref=sr_1_1/202-7452949-1380614?ie=UTF8&s=kitchen">De Longhi </a> and <a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dualit-72300-Kettle-Stainless-Steel/dp/B000FKLNOM/sr=8-2/qid=1167083962/ref=pd_ka_2/202-7452949-1380614?ie=UTF8&s=kitchen">Dualit </a>kettles are even worse). And the name - "Cotswold"? It brings to mind rural farm houses or commuter-belt suburbs. Horrid.

Luckily this is a kettle equally at home in modern urban kitchens looking for some retro key notes. And this kettle successfully captures the essence of the standard no frills enamelled kettle everybody owned through the 50s-70s (whilst modern in every way). Not wild about the pastel colour ways though. Mine is bright red, looks great, and I'd recommend that yours is too.
