I purchased this coffee press after much ado--I really wanted to avoid a coffee press with plastic parts that touch the coffee. In that regard, this item fills the bill. Now...for the really annoying part. Please do believe the reviews that proclaim the beaker to be fragile and delicate beyond belief. My first beaker lasted precisely 1-1/2 months. It was a Thanksgiving casualty, so to speak. I ordered two replacements, one which lasted me from the beginning of December until last week (that's nearly nine months, for those of you who don't want to count). The first break was my own fault admittedly. The plunger is heavy and when cleaning you have to keep it clear of the beaker. It swings down easily and will break the beaker like a hammer breaking an egg. The second break was for no clear reason at all. It just cracked during routine cleaning. Nothing harsh or unusual, just random. Oh the annoyance. I guess I will be ordering a few extra beakers to have on hand.
Another (milder) annoyance is the fact that the plunger/strainer works in mysterious ways. Some mornings the strainer moves down the carafe with little effort; other times I feel that I have to use a pretty good amount of force (while being cognizant of the fragility of the darn carafe) to move the strainer down into the coffee.
So I'm happy enough with the purchase in that it is one of the seemingly few coffee presses sans plastic but there are tradeoffs with the cost and hassle concerning the overly delicate carafe and the occasionally stubborn strainer.
