1) Simply attach NT-060 Mini Microphone to the earphone socket on iPod nano 4G or 120GB iPod classic, it'll unlock the voice recording software already installed on the device, the "Voice memos" option will be shown on the main menu of iPod.
2) When using it on iPod touch 2G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G or iPhone, you need to download and install recording software such as iTalk Recorder or Easy Recorder etc. on the device first.

The microphone seems to work well with most apps. The other reviews that point out that you need to be able to turn on the external speakers (itouch) are correct. So it won't work with some apps but that's down to the apps not the microphone. One criticisim is that it's very small and loosable. It has a loop which would be ideal for clipping onto a key ring but the loop is on the cover so you could loose the microphone if it came away from the cover, the loop should be on the actual microphone bit.

This little mic works a treat. It plugs into the iPod Touch even when the Touch is in the case I bought for it (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002V872WS/ref=oss_product) and (so far) appears rugged enough to be left in situ even when the Touch is wrapped up in its bed.
Performance is entirely satisfactory for such a low cost mic. Skype calls are clear.
Some have complained that when the mic is inserted, the internal speaker doesn't work. It's perfectly normal that whenever something is plugged into a headphone/mic jack, the internal speaker/mic is disabled. How else could external headphones be useful? So it is with the iPod Touch. Apple, however, provides the app designer with a solution to this, namely the facility to turn the internal circuitry back ON. So far as I know, Apple is the only company to permit this, to it's hats off to Apple again for great design.
With this mic inserted, and the Skype app running, you simply tap the Speaker button provided within Skype and bingo! the mic works AND the speaker works. If other apps don't do this, write to the app developer and complain. The mic company can't fix the issue.

This - and the other variations on a theme - seem to have 3 main purposes in life - making internet phone calls for free on the Itouch, such as through Skype, recording sound for playing back later on and converting your spoken words to text with a voice-to-text app.
So does it work with skype? Yes...with slight limitations (see below).
Does it need software to work (like the instructions suggest)? Not on an ITouch 3GS.
Can you hear sound whilst it is plugged in? Depends what app you are using.
Is the microphone good quality? Yes. It'll record a voice from across a quiet room easily.
Why not five stars? Because it is true that you can't just leave it plugged in all the time, as your internal loudspeaker won't work whilst it is. So for example, you won't hear you won't hear the iphone/itouch ringing if someone skypes you.
That said, with Skype or any app with a "speakerphone" option, once you have picked up a call, you can hear the other person whilst the mic is plugged in. The option only appears after you make/recieve a call.
That this works also proves that plugging in a microphone (or headphones) does not phyiscally disconnect the internal speaker, so in theory any app should be able to do this if programmed correctly.
Bear in mind before buying any of these mics that some ITouches come with headphones that have a mini microphone already built into them.. you might want to check yours before shelling out for this!

Complete rubbish do not buy as you are wasting your time and money.
Complete and absaloute rubbish does not work. Tried to use with Ipod touch for Skype for my son. A waste of time me ordering it and you sending it.
