I purchased this item as I wanted to buy a Virgin Mobile Sim Only contract for my iPad.

I'm not very good at crafts so the thought of taking a pair of semi blunt scissors \ scalpel to a Sim card sellotaped to a paper outline of a micro sim printed from the internet filled me with dread...

I saw this item and thought it was worth the investment. I was right! Easy to use and, more importantly, VERY clear instructions. The device is designed so you can only chop the sim one way. Brilliant!

It's an easy action and the sim is converted with smooth edges. There are also 2 x adapters so you can return your sim card to full size should you need to!

All in all a great product that works really well.

This product is fantastic, but for those purchasing it, there are a few things to know.

Whilst it seems as easy as inserting your simcard and then punching a hole into it make sure you take into account a few things.

1. The orientation of the sim card. When looking at the bottom of the unit, you should see the sim card chip and the rectangular side should be the side you insert first.

2. Sim cards come in all shapes and non-standard sizes.

I punched 3 chips and found:

o2 - is what I would call a standard sized sim, but has a large gold chip area. When punching this, there was absolutely no clearance on either side of the chip. If I had positioned even .001 of a mm left or right, I would have destroyed the chip. (Will upload a picture of all chips to demonstate). Luckily this was my test chip.

Three - Slightly smaller sim card chip and a lot more plastic on one edge than the other (instead of being equal plastic on each side. When inserting into the cutter, it's clear that the sim chip is not centered and cutting will cut through the chip itself. I used some scissors to get rid of a strip of excess plastic on one side, before putting into the cutter. Making sure that I created a border of plastic around the gold chip when cutting. ALWAYS leave some clearance and cut chips with the cutter upside down, so you can always see exactly what will be the end result in the case that the sim card moves. This was my PAYG chip and had £15 on it, so I was very happy it made it.

T-Mobile - This was a strange sim card. The Gold sim chip was actually rectangular instead of square which on the other hand left a lot more clearance on either side of the sim chip. This was the easiest to cut.

After recently purchasing a new phone(xperia S),I failed to notice it required a micro-sim instead of an ordinary sim.So after a little bit of panicking and scouring of the Internet,I came across this handy little device. The card-cutter itself looks and feels quite cheap, and reminds me of the staplers you used to use in primary school. But none of that matters because the thing is cheap, and more importantly it works flawlessly(in my case anyway).I'll admit I was wary of it actually working but the process was so quick and simple and the cut-down sim fitted into my new phone and worked without any problems.
I just can't understand how anyone could have a problem with this.I know not all sims are the exact same size and there is some variation in the shapes, but all you have to do is turn the thing upside down, after slotting your sim in,to make sure where exactly it is you're cutting(making sure not to cut the gold chip).
I really can't fault this product.

(I'm using a Three sim just incase anyone was wondering)

Before I bought the Lupo micro sim card cutter, I worked my way around the Amazon site (what a great feature the reviews are) trying to find the most fool-proof one. I very nearly decided to give up the whole idea but the Lupo seemed to have less really bad reviews. Some recommendation. When it arrived (next day, thanks Amazon Prime), I was still very nervous about using it. I was very careful to make sure that the 3 network Sim that I wanted to cut was centred in the hole in the bottom of the punch (you can see this from underneath) and with some trepidation pushed on the handle. I was surprised at how tough the card was to cut but with a bit of effort the cut was completed and the new Sim worked fine. Hence the 5 stars

I got this as my new phone requires a micro sim rather than the full sized ones.

The instructions are brief but to the point.. You line up the sim with the picture imprinted on cutter. It's basically like a hole punch, except for sim cards if you know what I mean.
After 5 minutes of panicking that I'd do something wrong and ruin my sim, I lined it up and pressed down hard on the handle. Out popped my micro sim which worked perfectly.

I shouldn't have worried!

As soon as I received my product, off with the wrapping and decided to put it to the test.

It works perfectly as stated by the seller, no fuss or hassle ... SIM card fits perfectly after the procedure!

If you're looking for a SIM converting DIY product this is highly recommended.

Needed to convert my old phone's SIM card to a microSIM so as to import my contacts into an Iphone 4. I found it easy to use. No problem inserting the SIM card into the correct position in the cutter. You need a bit of nerve though because it does require quite a bit of force. Visions of shattered SIM card all over the place but it didn't happen! You might need to do a bit of smoothing down on the edges with a needle file or similar (could use a nail file? - not emery board)

By the way, I found I could slip the cut-down card back into my old phone using the outer remnant of the SIM card left by the cutter as an adapter - better than the adapters supplied! (I found they did work but a bit fiddly).
