This long-awaited and beautifully-produced 360pp book from Tom Rosenthal who has been studying Lowry's paintings for over fifty years, is a must for everyone enthusiastic about Lowry's work who wants to see his full range, understand about his technique and his influences and read more about his extraordinary life. The author knew Lowry well, interviewed him for the BBC and discussed his work with key critics such as Sir Herbert Read, E.H. Gombrich and Sir John Rothenstein.
There are over 200 wonderful colour illustrations which I've been feasting on. Some of them have never been reproduced before. There are also many drawings and archive photographs and a useful guide to the public collections where you can see Lowry's paintings 'in the paint'.
Altogether a wonderful present to give to a friend - or to onself!
