It's not a bad book by any means, but it does have this bloody annoying theme running through it in terms of how the story is told. It is set as a Q&A session between the author and his brother & nephew. They ask the most irritatingly pertinent questions at exactly the right time, and the answer is presented as if to a four year old.

With that said, you will be able to get past that and enjoy the memories that the guy has. It is a good book and I can't help but feel a lot of respect for the guys that were involved in the conflict. It wasn't a nice one, it wasn't necessarily one they wanted to be involved in, and they were treated shockingly upon their return. So in that light, I'm happy to put up with a bit of a weird writing style.

This is by far the worst, most cliche filled Lurp memoir I have read. And I must have read 10. Whilst I have utmost respect for the service they performed and the varying traumas all of these guys went through, I can't believe this guy was with the people he claims to have been with whose memoirs and accounts I've also read.

Reads as good as any action or adventure story but try to remember this is real.
A must for any military or vietnam enthusiast. Excellent insight to infantry psychology and the world of the LRRPS. These men were the forefathers of modern commandos and rangers.
