Good, but marred by typographical errors,
By
This review is from: LPIC I Exam Cram 2: Linux Professional Institute Certification Exams 101 and 102: Exam 101, 102 (Paperback)
This is a fundamentally good book. It's one of the most recent LPIC books on the market, being published in 2004. It does not teach Linux, the reader must have a working knowledge of Linux to be able to use this book. Nor does the book contain all the information required to pass the exam, rather it provides a summary of the main topics, and key points, and it is up to the reader to locate the extra information. It's a compact format, and the typography is fine, and the techincal listing are mostly easy to read and follow. There are a few problems, the Debian information is often wrong, or at least it's not like my Debian Wooody or Sarge systems. There are quite a few typographical errors, a command will be explained, and the following example will be plain wrong. The CD worked fine on a Windows system, but failed to install properly on my Debian system. It's basically good book, let down by a few niggles. Hopefully the errors can be corrected in the next reprint, the changes need not require a whole new edition.

Excellent exam preparation,

I bought this book a week before sitting 101, and without it I would have failed for sure. It covers all topics currently in the LPIC 1 syllabus, and gives plenty sample questions. the only minor complaint was the cd did not install on Linux perfectly, needing a symlink setup to access the required libraries. It will also be a useful reference book.

Your guide to passing LPI level 1,
By
This review is from: LPIC I Exam Cram 2: Linux Professional Institute Certification Exams 101 and 102: Exam 101, 102 (Paperback)
This is a really great book. I've tried another book and some web based material but this is definately the best LPI 1 material I've read.Very easy to read, it's not stuffy or like a reference book. The guy who wrote it has a lot of experience with Linux and the LPI 1. You get some good tips on study tactics and lots of info about the exam. Be prepared to build on what you read in the book. You'll probably want a PC you can mess around with and experiment on. You really need to memorise a lot of commands and switches for the exam. If you're planning on taking LPI 101 and 102 look no further for your study guide.
