5.0 out of 5 stars A lesson in cool 19 Jun 2004
Format:Audio CD
If you're from New York, you are contractually obliged to make garage rock, rock the Jacket and Jeans combo witha T shirt bearing the Logo of some band like the Ramones, and keep you're vocals very low in the mix whilst performing songs about how very nonchalant you are about living in New York. Which is fine but after about 3 years of alot of this Garage rock stuff it's wearing a little thin in places.
Ambulance LTD are a complete breath of fresh air in 2004 for people who just don't get why some of these bands are so popular. The songs are unapolageticly melodic and catchy and the album isn't tied down by genres, movements or labeling. Although the horrible phrase "Something for everyone" does not apply (fan's of speed reggae and harpsichord jazz will be dissapointed with LP), the band touch upon a number of styles which help to make "LP" very satisfying to listen to whilst not sounding too eclectic and disjointed.
It really is one of the most rewarding listening experiences you're likely to have this year, partly because "young urban", "primitive", "heavy Lifting" and "Anecdote" are some of the most pleasing things to be put on a CD in recent memory, and partly because the chances are no one you know has even heard of them. The fact that you're reading this means that (as of june 2004) you've discovered them of your own accord without the help of MTV, NME, Radio 1 or a car advert, which is quite an achievment...well done.
It's difficult to describe how it makes you feel without using the word Pleasing over and over again, it has the same effect as watching any film with Bill Murray in in that it kind of makes you go "hhhmmmm" at the end and you feel very pleased with yourself.
In any sane society songs like "Stay where you are" and "Ophelia" would be number one right now and they would be constantley on the radio or TV... making you sick to death of Ambulance. Thank god we live in a land of morons, anyone who buys this will apreciate it all the more.

5.0 out of 5 stars mmmmmmmmmm yeah 10 Dec 2004
Format:Audio CD
I now live in NYC and a friend of mine recommended Ambulance after they opened for The Killers. He thought Ambulance were better. I went to see them last night in Brooklyn and they were brilliant. Their sound obviously has less of a production feel to it when live compared to on the album, sounding less Beatles-esque on some tracks and more new punk. It is an album you can listen to all the way through and get pleasure from every track, so rare these days. Highlights would be Heavy Lifting, Primitive, Stay Where You Are, Anecdote. There are no low points. They should be destined for big things.
