A man visiting the town of Taormina in his native Sicily accidentally falls, hitting his head on the stone pavement. He suffers a serious concussion that results in amnesia. He wants desperately to regain his identity, but is unable to recall who he is and what he was doing in Taormina.
Frustrated but determined, he searches for clues that might unlock his dormant memory cells. As he wanders about town, he discovers many familiar sights, but is unable to establish meaningful connections among the memories evoked by such sights. He becomes despondent and depressed, until a series of fortuitous events trigger an unlikely breakthrough.
