LOST HERITAGE: The Heroic Story of Radical Christianity

This book was recommended to me and I found that it was well worth reading. Lost Heritage is very informative but at the same time extremely readable.

An EXCELLENT Primer on NEW-Covenant History - Packed With Information. 8 Mar. 2012
By Mark Phillips - Published on
Take note please - these are the views of an unregenerate Gentile.

A general comment on the word "radical":

I am not keen on the term "radical"; for today that word has connotations of extremism, imbalance, and even violence; as if someone "radical" has "gone too far." The so-called "Anabaptists" (among others) denied themselves, took up their cross and followed Messiah Jesus; rather than being radical (in the modern sense of the word), they were simply measuring up to Messiah's yardstick (Luke 14:25-35); simply being true to the scriptural NORM; or simply going the WHOLE NINE YARDS. If you saw a herd of cows grazing in a field, would you consider such behavior RADICAL or NORMAL?! NORMAL cows graze; NORMAL (i.e., right-thinking) disciples of Messiah Jesus TAKE UP their cross, DENY themselves, and FOLLOW Him.

Therefore, when discussing disciplehood, I think "AUTHENTIC" or even "cross-carrying" would be far better words to use than "radical"; perhaps the best word to use would be simply this: "SCRIPTURAL." (The "Anabaptists" well understood the 24/7 DIE-namics of authentic disciplehood: Matthew 16:24-27; Mark 8:34-38; Luke 9:23-25; Luke 14:25-27; John 12: 24-25; 2 Corinthians 5:15; Galatians 5:24; Romans 6:4; Colossians 3:1-5; Philippians 3:7-11; 2 Peter 2:21-24.)

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: This is NOT the key Amazon WEBPAGE for the PAPERBACK edition of Lost Heritage. You can read the review of mine here; but, if you want it in paperback form (it is also on Kindle mind you), actually buy the paperback here: Lost Heritage

The DISTORTED Account of New-Covenant History That Tragically Prevails:

In the introduction to the book, Kim writes something of immense significance - and thereby sets the stage for his highly informative book:

"It has been said that history is the propoganda of the victor: whoever wins writes history from their point of view. Much of the writings of the dissenters were confiscated and burned so that their testimony could be distorted and misrepresented by their persecutors."

Too true: PERSECUTORS like the so-called "Magisterial Reformers" have been hailed as "Heroes of the Faith" whilst the followers of Messiah Jesus whom they PERSECUTED are today largely unknown (such as Felix Manz). Noting Psalm 94:20, Zechariah 4:6, 1 John 3:15 and above all, Matthew 12:33-37, what would Stephen, Peter or Paul make of the standard Evangelical 'Hall of Fame'? Need we even ask?

On HARVESTING this Rich Crop of Information:

Kim begins by setting out the Apostolic template for the leadership and activities of the Bride/Body; he then gives a sweeping overview of what has actually happened in the centuries since the template was given; he concludes by drawing lessons from man's tragic deviation from that template. As if to "spy out the land" and report back, here is a "rough 'n' ready" suggestion for getting the most out of reading "Lost Heritage," and from thereafter having an AGILE and PROFITABLE take on what has happened since the apostles left the stage:

1) Read the opening section (i.e., chapters 1-7) as if driving in the city; in other words, carefully and at a restricted pace; harvest all the information.

2) Read the middle sections (chapters 8-15) as if an interstate highway (that is, IF you would say you ARE interested in NEW-Covenant history, but that it is NOT a primary area to you): pick up your reading speed a gear or so, so as to avoid "details overload." That said, DO read it slower if you want to, for it sure is a nutritious read.

(Not every disciple has a strong interest in NEW-Covenant history; and therefore, some disciples may find the middle sections of the book a bit harder going. It is nowhere near as hard going as the begat sections in Holy Scripture, but it may be slightly more detailed than those with only a moderate interest in NEW-Covenant history would enjoy.)

3) For the closing section (chapters 16-18) return to city driving, as Kim sums it all up.

A Stellar PRIMER:

Kim's book is at present UNAPPRECIATED; it is an excellent PRIMER on the actions of the "winners," as well as the unsung, cross-carrying "losers" of NEW-Covenant history; an excellent foundation stone for building a balanced understanding of what has taken place since the days of the apostles. It is strongly recommended in itself, but complemented by the following:

Pagan Christianity?: Exploring the Roots of Our Church Practices by Frank Viola and George Barna.
Our Father Abraham: Jewish Roots of the Christian Faith by Marvin R Wilson.
The Kingdom That Turned the World Upside Down by David Bercot.
The anatomy of a hybrid: A study in church-state relationships by Leonard Verduin.
The Reformers and Their Stepchildren (Dissent and Nonconformity) by Leonard Verduin.
Our Hands Are Stained with Blood by Michael L Brown.
Word and Spirit Together: Uniting Evangelicals and Charismatics by David Pawson.

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: As aforementioned, this is NOT the key Amazon WEBPAGE for the PAPERBACK edition of Lost Heritage. You can read the review of mine here; but, if you want it in paperback form (it is also on Kindle mind you), actually buy it at the link provided above.

A well-rounded, WEIGHTY (outside the box/wineskin) understanding of the narrow Way comes from OBJECTIVE personal study of Holy Scripture; outside of those INSPIRED words, some books (like bricks) collectively serve to build a fallible but robust defence against some of the (sincere or insincere) SUBJECTIVE misconceptions that have arisen over the last 1900 years. Everything written in that collection (indeed in any book about the narrow Way) must be tested by Holy Scripture, by God's TRUTH - not men's (well-intentioned, but) UNINSPIRED wineskins; above all, by the words of the One Teacher - Messiah Jesus (Matthew 23:8). One side of the INSPIRED Bible coin (so to speak) can lead to legalism or license - it takes BOTH sides of the TRUTH to properly nourish and equip a Second Covenant soldier of Messiah Jesus. Kim's book on New-Covenant history is one of the collection.

(The Bible coin: Matthew 4:5-6/Matthew 4:7; Galatians 3:15-18/Hebrews 8:8; John 3:17/Acts 10:42; John 3:16/Luke 13:3; Mark 8:12/Hebrews 2:4; John 6:37/Luke 14:26; Matthew 11: 30/Luke 14:25-35; Acts 2:38/Acts 19:2; 1 Corinthians 14:18,26-33/1 Corinthians 14:19,40; Titus 3:5/Ephesians 2:10; John 1:17/Matthew 28:20; Matthew 7:1-5/1 Corinthians 5:9-13; John 10:11/John 12:24; John 10:10/1 Corinthians 5:14-15; Matthew 25:31-46/Revelation 20:1-10; 1 Thessalonians 1:10/Revelation 6:9-11; 1 John 1:6-9/Hebrews 10:26-31; Romans 8:11/John 15:6; Romans 8:30/Romans 11:11,19-22; 1 John 4:18/1 Peter 1:17 - and so on.)

Standard "Cherry Tree Bibles" (which have man-made "chapters 'n' worses") can indeed be handy for locating a sentence or two, but they are a hindrance to understanding it! God's LIBRARY of books has been turned into a ORCHARD of (66) cherry trees; which folk then cherry-pick "verses" from, in a subjective attempt to "prove" their wood, hay or straw theology - whether it be Trent; TULIP; PRE-Trib; Replacement/Fulfillment; or even Wesleyan. Do get yourself an UNASUNDERED edition of Holy Scripture: The Books of the Bible (NIV)

Sharpen your ACTS" (SYA) is an Amazon Listmania list I've put together. It is basically an attempt to select a few books of exceptional importance, so that any disciples who are not prolific book readers, can get themselves a small Narrow Way library, and yet one that gives first class information (including vaccine against some of the most pernicious toxins permeating the Western contingent of the Bride).

To find the SYA list, click on my name here on Amazon; then click on "Listmania Lists." Nearly all of the SYA books are available in ebook form, so free samples can be downloaded to your Kindle; or, onto any gadget on which you have installed a free Kindle App (such as your smartphone; your tablet; or your PC). Do go see the list; do get free samples; do don a napkin.
