Product Description

Product Description

The Lomo camera, an icon of mid-20th century design, is perceived as unable to take a bad picture, due to the unique, glass lens and capability for handling low-light levels. This antidote to all things digital and slick has found a vast international following of people who use it to document every aspect of their lives. This has spawned fan clubs and competitions the world over, culminating in the 2001 final in Cuba. This work features many images by keen lomographers, alongside facts, figures, anecdotes and ravings. It charts the visual language, history and lifestyle of this unique cult, an extraordinary camera and its global audience.

If you know anything at all about Lomography, you will not be surprised at the quirky content. If you know anything at all about the costs of colour printing and bookbinding you will not be surprised at the typically high costs of photographic and artsy-fartsy books like this. I needed cheering up during a grey and autumnal week and this book worked, inspired and made me smile. A coffee table book? I guess you could even use it as a small coffee table. My 'pre-owned' copy was a fraction of the new price and was/is in immaculate condition.
If, however, you are a straitlaced, 'life is real, life is earnest' type of grouchy old git [regardless of your age ... and I AM 73!!!] then I suggest you give this a miss and head off to the dusty shelves of your local refernece library instead. If you are prepared to dump convention, operate out of any boxes and keep a sense of fun, then go for it as this book will not disappoint. Forget all that Russian sounding gobbeldygook in the above title. Just plain old 'Don't think just shoot' is all that's needed. Enjoy!

Arty Lomography Book 8 July 2011
By Quinn
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I love a good 'coffee-table' book. The type you can have just lying around and people will just pick it up to have a peek at it. This book is great if you are a fan of Lomography (the spontaneous and 'amateur' art of photography). The shots in the book are glossy, well-presented and good fun to look at. They range from the artistic to the downright odd but the variety keeps it interesting. The colours pop and this book is great for arty ideas. Proof that any photograph can be a good photograph - regardless of experience, subject or photographic talent.

the brilliance of lomo 19 Sep 2002
By kyle mccabe - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
this book is awesome! for fans of the little lomo book that comes with the regular lomo camera, this coffee table size book is immensely more hypnotic. it features lomo photography from all over the world, documenting different lomo photographers' pictures for the last ten years. it's amazing what this camera has inspired in people. this book is loads of fun--i see something new in it every time i thumb through it! one thing this book will certainly inspire is the desire to shoot your own photography with the lomo!

The Lomo Bible 17 April 2003
By FKC - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I purchased this book at the same time as my Lomo LCA, my first foray into the world of Lomo. The book contains an amazing assortment of Lomos, showcasing the seemingly limitless possibilities of Lomography. It is an inspiration to both new and experienced Lomographers, and provides plenty of excellent material to peruse. For parents, be aware that some nudity and violent images are part of the collection.

What keeps me from a 5 star rating is the horizontal orientation of the book. While I "get" that it's part of the point, it makes the book a bit unwieldly and difficult to just flip through both as a reference and as a coffee table pick-up. Overall, however, if you are or have interest in becoming a Lomographer, it is a must have.

A Rich Slice of Lomography 20 July 2008
By sarahstranded - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book is stuffed with amazing images. Some are of the mundane, others of violence, or nature, or pets, and basically anything else you can think of. However, all are inspirational to look at. I must admit I'm fairly new to lomography, but I think a seasoned lomographer would still thoroughly enjoy this book. There is so much to look at it would be hard to get tired of this book. It is pretty expensive, but if you are into lomography and have a space where you can keep this out and look at it from time to time, it's definitely worth the price.
