The name Michael Harris will be synonymous with that as the acknowledged expert on LNER - and indeed a number of other types of railway coach. The author of three books on LNER vehicles, all have been out of print for some time leaving a considerable gap in the market for those who yearn to obtain a copy of one of definitive works on the subject. I found this book extremely useful in determining the carriages I should model for my Flying Scotsman. It changed my thinking as it was so detailed with the history of LNER carriages.

...was in the research into the history, design and building of LNER passenger and non-passenger carrying rolling stock that travelled in main line expresses or branch-line workings. The pre-LNER constituents are dealt with in this book - I had it a long time ago and foolishly loaned it out -as well as the LNER and its successor, the Eastern Region of British Railways. Michael was latterly interested in the progress of preservation, at Pickering on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway or on the Severn Valley Railway. His passing was mourned by many.
