Lots in here for me to act on. It gave the reasons to be still. Now I need to act on it and need some guidance on how to meditate on God.

HASH(0x915e5534) out of 5 stars Warning: May Slap You With a Good Dose of Reality 15 Jun. 2012
By Sundi Jo Graham - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I get fidgety when I hear the word "stillness." I immediately think of silence and my mind starts to freak out with all the thoughts that will consume me if it gets too quiet. I sleep with a fan for the love of Pete.

I used to think like that anyway, before I really got an understanding of what stillness is through Abby Lewis' book Living Still. (Okay, I still think that way sometimes, but I'm getting better)

Lewis takes you through four parts of learning what it's really like to be still: Spirit, Mind, Body, and Free to Live.

I learned that stillness looks different for everyone. For example, for Abby, stillness is sitting in nature, feeling God's love through a ladybug. Stillness for me comes in different forms. I'm a music lover. I seem to think more clearly when there is music in my ear, especially worship music. As Lewis challenges readers to find what keeps them still enough to hear from God, I was excited to know that God and I could have some great conversations, even when there's noise. That doesn't mean there aren't times he wants me to turn the noise off, but I love knowing he reaches us all differently.

"Stillness allows me to keep my ears in tune to God's still, small voice so He can guide and direct me in the way I should go."

It was a convicting read for me really. We live in a busy world, and unfortunately, many of the choices I make contribute to even more busyness. I don't want that. I want peace. Calm. Stillness. But I can't find it if I'm not willing to slow down enough to listen to God. Living Still provides you with the tools necessary to get back on the right path in having a calmer, well-balanced life.

Here's what Abby says will happen if you make the choice to be still before God, "You will begin to walk in peace as you rely on God's strength, wisdom and direction rather than your own."

Why didn't I think of that? Oh yeah, probably because I've been too busy to slow down. It's not a just a one time read. It's a book to go back to again and again, because it's so easy to get caught up in chaos of today.

Not only have I enjoyed the book, but I've actually been witness to Abby Lewis living out the words she's written. She's my massage therapist and I'm constantly seeing her practice what she preaches. She's pretty good at noticing when I'm following the busy path versus the still path too. It's great to see an author put her words to action, which makes me only want to share this book with you more.

If you want to learn how to find stillness in the day in and day out, hustle and bustle of this busy world, I highly recommend you read the book. Warning: there are a few things in the book that may slap you with a good dose of reality.

HASH(0x915e5588) out of 5 stars A great bookl to read 26 Sept. 2013

"Living Still" is a must read for all Christians. The book is well written and walks the reader through the process of how to be still and connect with our God. "Living Well" is a great and balanced guide book to aid us in the process connecting with our God. No matter where we are on our journey of Christian faith we must take time to be still and know our God.

I have been on my journey of Christian faith for 55 years and I have experienced the precious gift of moments of being still and know the love, joy, peace, and comfort that comes when we are still and connect with our creator. I plan to read the book again and use as a guide to help me live my life in the fullness that our creator wants us to live.

How can we not gain in our faith when we read:

"We cannot rest in the Presence of God and walk away unchanged-- He specializes in our complete restoration".

"God is waiting for all His children to be still so He can speak wisdom and direction to them. He wants to bless you with love, joy, peace, comfort and healing. He wants to restore and transform you".

When you choose to be still with God each day, He gives you the opportunity "to know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe" (Ephesians 1: 18-19).

"In the quietness of my heart, I heard Him say, You began giving me "high fives, instead of taking time to be still in my Presence, which diminished your ability to hear what I was saying to you. I would never call you to do so much that it takes your joy. You cannot be a light to the world when the light in you is not visible anymore"

Take the time to read this book and use it as a guide to live your life with the fullness, peace, joy, love, and contentment that our creator desires for us.

HASH(0x915e575c) out of 5 stars I Turned Up the Voice of God 26 April 2014
By Antonio Smith - Published on Amazon.com

Abby strikes gold with this book. There aren't too many authors who force you to slow down to take it all in. However, Abby writes just the book. This book teaches the reader how to turn down the voice of this world and turn up the voice of God. I believe every person in the world should read this book. There is never anything wrong with living, but we all should be living in the stillness of God. I have truly enjoyed learning how to live still. Thanks Abby!
