OK. The sound is atrocious - as if it was recorded on a dodgy mono cassette recorder during a Live concert in 1970. Er... oh, it was? That explains it!

This is a jewel. For those of us who are (a) Ginger Baker fans and (b) never made it to the Air Force concerts, and (c) have treasured their Very Tired LP of Air Force 1, this is JUST WONDERFUL!

It is not the original band from Air Force 1 - who had gone their own ways by then, but we still have the inimitable Ginger Baker and the loony Graham Bond, and a host of sax, bass and singers.
But the miracle is that we have this at all. However awful the sound is. This is the REAL THING! Ginger Baker's Air Force LIVE... What more could you want (apart from a Time Machine, a mobile 24 track recorder, and tickets to the concert back in 1970). So without those - this is what we've got.

You get the sense of the concert, the fun that the musicians were having, the ROAR of Baker's Air Force (always an apt name, I thought), and the pleasure from the crowd.
To be honest, I am not going to be playing this very often - but first time through was a Great Pleasure.

The notes don't mention who the bootlegger was - perhaps we will never know - but whoever you are (or were?) - Bless You - you have made a Happy Man Very Old - and, as they say, "Do What You Like"... so I will, where's the replay button?

well again expectations are not met, I bought all ginger baker bootleg series and listened first to 1970 concert with Graham Bond etc - well the music is great, quality poor, judge it by yourself but remember it is real bootleg - nothing to do even with so and so quality concerts offered now.

If you like audience recordings (I do) then this is nothing like as bad as other reviewers would have you believe. The instrumentation is well balanced, the sound fairly crisp - not too harsh/muddy - and it's consistent throughout. If you're looking for soundboard digital "perfection", then forget it. But amongst audience tape collectors it would probably rate Very Good.

HASH(0x8e9b24d4) out of 5 stars Raw Ginger 17 Aug. 2010

Well, the liner notes are honest. This is a true bootleg-probably some stoner standing with
his tape deck held high over his head. This is a good performance overall, but if you're
looking for instrument separation and clear vocals, I'd probably have you take a pass on
this. This is not the band line-up that recorded the GB Air Force record in '70. Winwood &
Gretch (his Blind faith partners) are both absent. This is a very raw recording. For die-hards,
I'd say pick-up a copy. It is a solid performance. My only issue is the sound quality. As
a side note, the price was fair and there's a lot of music for your buck over 2 discs with
plenty of jamming. You be your own judge. I'm just offering a heads-up for any audiophiles
out there thinking about it.

HASH(0x94be77b0) out of 5 stars The best flight you'll ever make ! 28 Sept. 2015
By Geoffrey basil smith - Published on Amazon.com
What is left to say about Ginger Baker ?! The greatest jazz/rock drummer of his generation.
This bootleg speaks for itself. Overall, Airforce was the most ambitious of all his multi-various group ventures and the fact is many of us, still besotted with Cream, didn't appreciate the band back in 1970. Certainly not Airforce 2 which is featured on this album.
OMG, how hard this group worked ! The sheer energy !! The absolute intensity !!!
Ginger has no sooner given us a marathon drum solo on Toady then he is back with an equally thunderous work-out on Aiko Biaye. And the band is with him all the way and in between.
Only the later Hawkwind Space Ritual can compete with the unrelenting return to high octane, fever pitch playing, again and again so even the listener can hardly catch his breath . The climax on Don't Care is positively demonic !
This is epic , dramatic and quite awe inspiring (in fact, in my opinion , Airforce 2 was much better than Airforce 1). And yet I don't recall seeing a single album by them on sale in the shops .
Throughout this set - wild as hell - Graham Bond wails his butt off on alto sax screaming and screeching so powerfully you wonder where he got the lungs.
And, as ever, the girl singers Aliki Ashman and Diane Stewart (often billed as backing vocalists !) often lead the band on stage in their terrific build-ups, crescendo after crescendo. The sheer number of times Ginger solos to a drum climax on Do What You Like -again !!! - shows why he deserves the crown of World's Best Drummer .
Aliki never seemed to really make it in the seventies despite being one of the hardest working female vocalists of the era. Ginger, too, worked his ass off, time and time again.
It's a tragedy Airforce 2's studio album isn't still available on CD since it was a far more varied and enjoyable affair than that of Airforce 1.Especially the German version which had even more tracks.
A few months after this concert, Airforce, Ginger's boldest venture, was , alas, no more.
Thank the heavens, Airforce 3 is just about to take off in December - and Ginger is 76 ! - with the possibility of a tour in 2016.
If only Bud Beadle, Steve Gregory, Colin Gibson, Aliki , Diane (and even Stevie Winwood and Denny Laine) could be persuaded to join the flight.

Ginger Baker and Air Force. It's a good bootleg , but not the greatest. But it will do you if you dont have any live records of Ginger Baker.
