5.0 out of 5 stars A Little Cracker 20 May 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase
Like a previous reviewer I have a new Samsung television with an excellent picture, but terrible sound. There is not enough room in the cabinet for a decent sized speaker. There only being an optical sound output on the television, I connected my Denon amp to the sound output from my Free Sat box. Excellent quality sound, but completely out of sync with the picture. I did a a search in Amazon for a converter from digital sound to analogue sound and was relieved to find this "Little Cracker". It has a mains adaptor, which I connect to the slave socket in the back of the amplifier, so that it switches on and off as the amplifire is switched on and off. I purchased the required connecting cables, connected up and it was up and running in no time. The sound quality is still excellent and lips are in perfect sync with the picture. A highly recommended piece of kit. Hope my review helps.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lindy 70408 Digital to Analogue Converter 21 Mar 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase
Though television sound has improved tremendously it still doesn't compare with Hi Fi. Up to the coming of digital television it was no trouble to run a couple of phono leads to my analogue amplifier in order to enjoy a better quality of sound.
After the analogue switch-off I could no longer do this as my replacement telly only has an optical digital output and was incompatible with the analogue input of my Pioneer amp. The only solution seemed to be a new digital amp but the cost was prohibitive. Then I discovered Lindy on Amazon and their Digital to Analogue Converter.
This small device weighing only 30 grams allows you to input digital audio through either a co-axial or optical digital cable and output stereo analogue audio. A switch is provided to to let you chooses between inputs. A power supply is included.
The device is connected to the television via a digital optical cable (not included) and output-ed through left and right phono cables to the amplifier.
An elegant solution and one which allows you to match the high quality of modern television pictures with an equally high quality sound.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works Great 13 Jun 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought this for my farther in law to allow the use of his wireless headphones on a new TV. This gizmo took the digital audio outputs and converted them down to Sterio Left and Right. It only took 2 min to set up and worked first time.
Highly recomended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect sound in perfect sync 30 Dec 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought this a couple of months ago so that I could connect my Samsung UE40D6100 to my HIFI amplifier.
The LINDY SPDIF comes with several power plug adapters so I was able to plug it into the power socket built into my amplifier so it switches on and off with the amplifier - it also means that I did not have to use-up another plug socket. I connected the digital cable from the TV to the LINDY and then connected the LINDY to the amplifier (cables are not included) in just a few minutes - easy.

The sound is very good - my amp and speakers cost close to £2000 and the sound through the LINDY is clear with none of the humming or buzzing noises I had feared. I have no doubt it would sound great through a normal stereo system too.

Speech is in perfect sync with the TV's own speakers and screen, whether watching TV, Blueray or Sky , so you can have the sound thumping out of both the TV and your stereo speakers for a more balanced sound.

I think this is a great product for anybody that does not want to buy a sound bar. In my opinion, a good pair of speakers or even a decent stereo system will blow a sound bar away!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fixed HDTV audio sync issues with hifi 26 Nov 2012
By PJ
Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought this as I was getting synchronisation problems between the tv speaker output and the analogue audio feed to my hifi which was beginning to drive me nuts. It was like having an echo, especially as I had connected speakers in the kitchen. I bought this gadget, connected an optical cable from the optical out port on the tv to this device and then a twin rca audio cable to the aux in port on the hifi. Problem solved! In perfect sync, whether it is sky+, DVD or the TV. The sound quality is certainly good enough for me. I would recommend it to anyone with similar sync issues.

I use this converter to connect an LED Samsung smart TV to a set of Panasonic wireless headphones. I also needed (i) a 1m digital optical cable to link the converter to the TV digital output, and (ii) a 0.2m cable with 2 phono plugs and a 3.5mm stereo socket to connect the headphones transmitter cradle to the converter. I had it all connected up and working in a few minutes. I can now control the headphone sound volume completely independently of the TV speakers. For instance, the TV 'mute' setting switches the TV speakers off, but variable headphone sound remains available. I can now watch TV (sport, for instance) without disturbing my wife (or vice versa), or we can watch TV together, but I can have more volume on the headphones, again without disturbing my wife. How good is that?

Arrived promptly and works. Our new thin Samsung TV had poor sound but only a digital optical output. So it wasn't possible to connect to our old but good hi fi system. This tiny convertor solved the problem. Only had it a few weeks so I can't say whether it will last but the results are good and a lot cheaper than a new hi fi.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blurays now play through my 15 year old Amp! 27 Feb 2013
By Patsy O
Amazon Verified Purchase
I have a Sony STR DB-925 Amp that I bought 15 years ago; it delivers brilliant surround sound through my equally old speaker set up. 2 years ago, my husband upgraded our then 13 year old 50" Sony rear projection TV to a Sony 50" HD flatscreen (Bravia), and then last week, I decided to bite the bullet and buy a Sony Bluray player. Yes, we love Sony.

Well, I couldn't, for the life of me, get the BR player to play through the amp despite connecting the coax channels (as a help forum had suggested) - even though everything was Sony.

I called Sony, and an idiot there said "can't help you, your amp is too old"! I insisted on speaking to a supervisor, who was more diplomatic and more helpful. He said he would get some tech advice and ring me back the next day (Fri). He did. I was unavailable and he left a message. He would call me back the next working day (mon). That was 2 days ago, and I still haven't heard from him.

Well, I then decided (whilst waiting for my call from Sony) to do a bit more research and stumbled across this gem. I cost me GBP35.63 and my BR discs are now blasting through my 5.1 surround sound. RESULT!

As my BR player can play DVDs too, I simply removed the coax cable from my now defunct Sony (yep) DVD player and put it into this contraption, and then did the same with the Audio L & R cables. I reset my Audio settings for the BR player - choosing everything that had "PMS" on it - with everything else set to 'on', 'surround' or 'cinema' (there were c. 9 options!), and I sat down to a treat. Although I am a sensible woman, I am not very tech savy, but it took all of c. 5 mins to do.

Before coming across this converter, I was thinking of:

1. returning the BR player, or
2.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cheap DAC producing a corresponding sound
It does what it says on the tin but nothing more. There are relatively high noise levels and the sound quality is OK but not audiophile by any stretch of the imagination.
