Product Description

If you suffer from sleepless nights, fatigue or depression during the autumn and winter months, regular use of this lamp (1 hour per day is recommended) can help to combat these symptoms.

Light levels determine the sleep / wake cycles of both animals and humans. The desire to sleep is brought on by the secretion of Melatonin and the bright natural light. The light from a SAD lamp significantly reduces Melatonin, greatly improving our energy levels. Typical symptoms of SAD are depression, lethargy, anxiety, craving, social problems, sleep problems and loss of libido. These symptoms can be commonly resolved through the use of light boxes.

Unlike many cheaper units, this lamp extensively re-developed for 2010, this device fully meets the requirements of Medical Device Directive 93/42/EEC and is fully CE Approved and RoHS Compliant.

I bought this lightbox grasping at straws really. I had a bad August. I was wishing to get away from work and feeling miserable. I got a week off and wanted to go to the south of France but never made it there. At the end of the week I had to go back to work but felt like I had had no holiday at all. I worked through November and just became more and more down until I was forced to take another week off work simply because I felt too depressed to work. It was at this point that someone suggested a light box. I was sceptical, I didn't think they could really work but I hunted around and this one seemed so cheap that it seemed worth a shot.
Over the first few days I really overdosed on the thing. I had to be back at work soon and everyone said it took about a week to get working. I actually noticed results in a couple of days. On the second day of using it I was sitting for hours with it very close to me and it was like I could feel vitality rushing from my body into my brain. This was an experience I had a couple of times in that first week. I guess it made such a big change from how I felt before.
I now use it for 2 or 3 hours a day. I don't get particularly close to it anymore, I just leave it switched on beside my arm chair. It is now January and I have to say I feel like a whole new person compared to November.
The unit itself doesn't hum as badly as people say. I suppose when you are treating yourself with light you have to get up real close to get the benefits and you do notice the hum. At the distance I sit it is barely noticeable. The only time I notice it is by its absence when I turn the light off. When you are very close it gives off a surprising amount of heat, but this is quite pleasant.

I love the sunshine and for a more than a few years now, from around late October until the end of January, I've found myself suffering from the effects of SAD. Awkward sleep patterns, trouble waking up in the morning and a general lack of motivation. For around three months a year I'm just not myself.

Having said that, for almost three years, I've been looking at various lights and just couldn't justify spending £150-200 to take a chance on what is essentially, still just a light. When I saw this product producing the recommended 10,000 lux for around £55, I figured it was time to give it a pop.(ended up buying a used one for £35)

It arrived 5 days later, and I plugged it in the moment the sun went down... WOW! It really is bright, I could instantly see how this would work. I've had it for around three weeks, and the moment I walk in the door each day, my light is switched on.

If money's no issue, I would advise to buy one of those more expensive ones, as this one has a slight high-frequency flicker which you notice when you first turn it on or get really close. I tend to move it a little further away for twice as long... But anything else I've seen in this price range doesn't come close to the 10,000 lux which this one produces.

I would recommend this to anybody who is considering trying this type of therapy for the first time and is cautious of spending £150 on a light.

Wish I'd bought one of these years ago! It really makes a difference through the winter months. No complaints about this light, it's quiet with no flickering. Worth the money.

What a difference it makes to have the light - my lounge is north facing and can be quite dark during the day, especially when the weather is bad, which makes the room quite depressing. The SAD Light (as I call it) makes the room so much lighter and I feel somehow energised. I also sleep better now. You need to have it on every day over a period of time but it is worth it. Another positive effect is that my eyes are not as sore as they were with the "ordinary" lights. I was so impressed that one of my colleagues at the office has hers on her desk, and our Facilities Manager has also changed my lights to a "SAD Light". The difference is noticeable. I was amased to discover that the neon light (there are two above me) are only 24 watts each, yet the output is so significant. Well done - I highly recommend this product. It changed my life.

I dont work for these people-I have (had) a spotty son and a wife from overseas who hates the UK weather. I bought it for the Mrs but she swears blind that she doesnt suffer from SAD so my teenage son put the lamp in his room-within a few days, there was a drastic improvement in his skin condition and he noticed a significant change for the better in his energy levels-so it works! And it was cheap in comparison to other lamps-no buzz, minimal flicker at close quarters yet still half the price of 'better' lamps on the market. I have no complaints. My one question would be, where do I get replacement bulbs and how much are they?? (BTW-the bulbs are fluorescent and dont function fully until the lamp has been on for a while. So dont make the mistake of thinking 'oh no, I bought a duffer' and rush to return it.Give it a couple of minutes when you first turn it on)
