I still have some video cassettes, so decided I would buy a combination player - haven't had a VCR for a while. This seemed great - I was a bit disconcerted when it arrived, as the box and the manual were both French, as was the default language on the player. The language was easily changed, and I can read French, though some of the technical stuff is a bit tricky - however, I only needed it to connect to a TV that has no reception, so didn't need to worry about how to record, etc. It worked a treat for about a week, then when I went to turn it on, there was no power at all. Not sure what happened - the seller put me in touch with LG, but they have been unhelpful (and confirmed that it is not a British model), and trying to get it fixed is proving difficult. I will persevere, but am disappointed to have spent £250 on something that only survived a week.
