Great Buy!!!! 1 Jun 2010
Have only had this for a couple of days but love the sound and all the features. Really only wanted surround sound with Blu ray and Facility to play usb stick AVI files. This has internet link and facility to run files from PC. A media center and all for a very reasonable price. Have Ordered Plug network connectors so will feedback ease of connecting when they arrive. It also upscales everything so 700mb AVI is looking almost as good as dvd quality. So Far LOVE IT!!!

I did a lot of research before buying this particular LG Home Cinema system and was aware of a particular issue many early owners had with it.
However, it offers an amazing technical specification, so I felt it worth taking the risk on an assumption that LG would have recitifed the problems on later units.
The problem is simple; when the device is outputting sound; either through the Blu-Ray player, through the iPod dock or through an external connection (optical or component) there is a constant hiss/whistle/buzz through one or more of the speakers.
The unwanted noise is not volume dependent i.e. you can turn up the volume and drown it out, but if you listen to anything at low volume e.g. a quiet moment in a TV program or film, or a subtle piece of music, it becomes incredibly irritating - a bit like a constantly whilstling kettle in the next room.
I am guessing from the other reviews that the owners have either very insensitive hearing or they were exceptionally lucky, but I have now had three of these systems (all manufactured in October 2010) and they all exhibit the same issue. A quick scan of the forums will show you many others complaining.
Incidentally, you will not hear the problem when the system is idle. LG have tweaked the software to disable the speakers when they are not actively producing sound; I would much rather they addressed the underlying problem!
Finally, I should say if LG do manage to fix this design fault this would be a fantastic (5 star) system. It has an easy to use menu system, interfaces with LG TVs and has a very attractive fascia.
In the mean time, mine is going back again.
UPDATE (18/02/2011): After receiving a third unit with the same problem I arranged for it to be sent back to LG, who replaced the main board and have fixed the problem. The unit still loses a star for the hassle getting one that works correctly, but now it does it was well worth the hassle; features, sound quality, value for money (in fact everything about the unit) is superb!

Excellent Product! 6 Jun 2011
By Rislar
I have now owned this for a month or so having bought this in April 2011, after reading some reviews i was a little apprehensive, seeing as the early models had a problem with a hiss noise from the speakers, mine does not have such a problem and works great!
Im rather amazed at the sound quality from the unit, especially as the unit is rather cheap considering the other systems on offer! one of the reasons i went for this was because it has 2 HDMI inputs (which is handy for gamers)and the ipod interface which is superb!

i haven't had this over half the volume as it is so loud, there is enough range of preset sounds to keep everyone happy! the blue-ray player boots rather quickly and the DVD upscale works a treat, you really can tell the difference, the only thing that annoying if you can call it that, is when you are watching a div ex from a flash drive there isn't much control from the player, you can only fast forward or rewind at one speed!
Anyway, in summery i will give this 9/10, a truly fantastic product even compared to some really expensive Home Systems!
