I bought this Blu-ray player, LG BD-390, having read several online reviews from reputable sources. I had recently upgraded my TV to a High Def, large screen, LCD model with the objective of gettng a Blu-ray player in the near future However, when all the reviews I'd read were unanimous in recommending this model in the highest terms, I decided to give it a try sooner rather than later. I was not wrong and, so far, it's been one of the most sensible purchases I've ever made. Set up is simple, the HDMI connection (NB, buy good cables!) knocks the large, unwieldy scart connectors into the ditch and the machine was up and running within minutes. After inserting a Blu-ray disc, I could hardly believe my eyes and ears - the quality of the picture and sound was stunning. OK, while the TV and sound system I have - both Sony, btw - are of excellent quality, you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear if the source is no good. In this, case the source is a pure diamond. It is a superb piece of engineering. Other great pluses are its ability to play almost every file given to it, either from a CD (R or RW) or DVD (R or RW) disk (for music or video) or the immensely practical inclusion of a USB connection at the front to plug in a flash drive or external Hard Drive giving you instant access to your music, video or photo libraries. On-screen menus are clear, the instruction book (which I have yet to fully explore!) is concise and, as another reviewer mentioned, the ability to upgrade its firmware is built in. I would not hesitate to recommend the LG BD-390 to anyone should they wish to purchase a top class Blu-ray player. It is, quite simply, superb.

I got this Blu-ray player just after Christmas (2009). The Player starts fast and will be up and playing a Blu-Ray faster that most of the other ones I have seen in the shops. The built in networking is excellent with the latest firmware allowing the use of network shares with no need for a DLNA server. The Player has played back almost all digital video formats which I have tried so far, I have only had an issue with a VC1 file. The DB390 does however have a problem with viewing JPEGs from my Canon EOS 400D digital Camera.

In the UK the online streaming options are limited to You Tube which is somewhat disappointing as there are several steaming providers which could have been added for UK customers which would have made this a 5* item. (No BBC iPlayer here for example)

As a general overview this is an excellent Blu-Ray player and I would happily recommend it.

bought this from another etailer after reading a review in What Hifi and Video magazine; it is absolutely brilliant - bluray playback is stunning, better than an existing samsung model i have had for a year. DNLA (wifi sharing) is the icing on the cake! Menus are intuitive and the youtube feature is really cool. this is simply a great multimedia hub.
