I recently decided to upgrade from my old LG TV which was starting to make some funny buzzing sounds and wasn't a smart TV. My previous TV was 37", the new one is 42". I was worried about the size difference, but in fact because my old TV had a massive surround the new TV didn't take up any more room but offered a lot more picture in the same space.

I looked around at a number of options, finally narrowing it down to a choice of either Samsung or LG. What eventually swung it for me was the following:

    - Online reviews said the LG interface was better all round experience
    - LG `wand' remote sounded better than the Samsung motion tracking remote
    - As a gamer the LG duel play option sounded handy

I've not been disappointed. The picture quality is outstanding, a big step up from my old TV. Sound quality is OK, but I'm always a little disappointed with TV speakers as I've had a good surround sound system for years.

There has been a curious problem when using the new TV with my existing Onkyo receiver, there is often a really poor lip sync problem. This wasn't a problem with the old TV and I've not yet found a way to completely fix it, there are lip syncing options on the amp but they never seems to fix it permanently. That's really been the only negative of the TV I've found after several months of use.

The wand remote is absolutely brilliant, if you've used a Nintendo Wii you'll know exactly how easy it is to use. The wand controls a cursor on screen which you can move around to click the on screen buttons, very easy. The interface is set up with big buttons, looking like a touch screen interface, which makes using the wand very easy.

The 3D aspect, while not used much, is really good.

There has been some debate in reviews if the satellite decoder works in this model in the UK. Well it does for me. I took a single feed from my regular sky Quad LNB, put an F-Plug on the end and connected up. Told TV to do a blind search and it found 420 unencrypted TV channels and lots of radio.

These are the options I changed to before doing the scan:

    Satellite: Astra 28.8E
    LNB Frequency 9750/10600
    LNB Power ON
    DiSeqC OFF
    Uncable Off
    Motor Off

This is generic free to air satellite receiver, not the branded "Freesat from Sky" so it uses the regular LG EPG (which is pretty good). The only downside is the channels all come in on kind-of random channel numbers, but the great news is you can renumber them (use the edit option) to whatever you please, for example BBC1 HD as channel 1 etc. No C5 HD available FTA.

Nothing extra really to add the others haven't already said. Love this TV. The only thing I would change would be to make the screen a little less reflective.

1 If you have a sky remote control the code for it to control this TV is 0206

2 I noticed in the Amazon pictures it shows the "premium" smart remote but it actually comes with the standard version (which is fine, and actually works surprisingly well when you are used to it.)

It sounds sad to start with; but this TV did actually take my breath away when we first turned it on and sat back.

I bought the 55" 690V. Let me start by saying that the clarity on 3D was much better than I had expected for a passive unit and that it really does have a tiny tiny border around this screen.
I watched a 1080p film last night for the first time on a 1080p set and it was fantastic on this one. The smoothness of the image was fantastic, and configurable.

I should probably list downsides now because there are so many positive things about this product that I should get them out the way:
    - Assembly: A one time assembly is made harder by the beauty of this product. You have to get it out of its box and onto its stand without touching the screen (well they're covering themselves because you probably could). This is difficult given there's no border so when it's face down; picking it up is scary. I suggest keeping the polystyrene block on the top to help you get it upright and then you can hold top and bottom of bezel.
    - YouTube : It lags and stutters for me; not sure why when iPlayer and everything else work a charm.
    - LG Smart Stuff : The user interface leaves a lot to be desired. Cant move anything in front of the "premium" section on the main screen for example.
    - Magic remote and UI: The magic remote can sometimes be hard to activate (its motion controlled like an iPhone not light bar like a Wii) so you shake it. And on some User Interface parts (like entering a WiFi key) I was *screaming*. They put the "Delete All" button next to the "OK" button and my password is about 25 characters long.
-Power cable length: The length of the power cable is about the width of the 55" TV; it's not long enough.

Seems to work perfectly with all channels being found easily, however, Miracast tends to be temperamental even on wired connection. It is perfect when its work and outputs in 5.1 Dolby Digital buy other times fails to even show up as a second screen option.
LG are still missing some apps such as ITV Player and 4OD which other brands (Samsung) have.
I can't comment on the sound quality as I use home cinema speakers instead.
The magic remote has its pros and cons too: Great for navigation once you get used to it (much easier than a wiimote) but lack of shortkey buttons (coloured ones) that would be useful when browsing media and jumping back to now playing. Also, to quickly get the info on the channel and show its annoying to have to shake the remote, point to the top then click on the text just to browse without loosing the channel.
The smart share feature is great and I use it with a NAS drive (My Book Live) and can stream a majority of media formats and audio formats up to DTS in 5.1.
The 3D aspect of this TV is brilliant, although, I do have to fiddle with the cabling to get 3D as my home cinema amp doesnt support HDMI 1.4, but this isn't the TV's fault and when connected directly to my PS3 it looks great.

All in all, it's a fantastic TV when it works, shame the magic remote lets it down at times.
