Stunning in so many ways,

This review is from: LG 47LX9900 47-inch Widescreen Full LED 3D Infinia Internet TV with Freeview HD (Electronics)
The LG LX9900 as with all large TV's comes in an absolutely enormous box. After you open it you remove this tiny sliver of a television - even if you have been using an LCD TV for years the thinness of this TV is amazing. When its switched off the box is black with a clear surround. Turning it on you get a very bright crisp image. The TV itself is about 3cm thick; in the box is a good looking glass stand or you can wall mount it. Of all the TVs i have seen this is one crying out to be wall mounted - its attractive on and off and so very thin it doesn't stand away from the wall. To see it even further LG to a wireless break out box which lets you mount it on the wall with just a power cable needed - you can hide all the wires and boxes away with a small wireless transmitter. If you are going to wire up to the TV the connectivity on the back is excellent - with 4 hdmi sockets, vga, composite connector, component, a scart connector, 2 usb sockets and an ethernet socket. Usefully there is also an optical sound out port; this means you can use the TV as a switch to a cinema system with all the surround sound being delivered over HDMI. There are two remote controls; a standard one covered in buttons and a wii style motion controller. The later of these makes the TV work like a computer giving you a mouse cursor and menus on the screen - and is very easy to use. Unfortunately the motion controller interface is very limited. The USB sockets let you plug in a USB drive to watch films on them; or view photos and the built in software to control them is fairly simple. It is also able to play 3d photo (.mpo) files from 3d capable cameras like the Sony Nex-5 or Fujifilm w3. When you have decided how to mount it and where to plug everything in the TV has a simple installation routine and can set find all the Freeview channels and set them up quickly and without fuss. The LX9900 is also able to decode Freeview hd channels so you can watch over the air HD content. The ethernet cable (or optional wireless USB cable) lets you run LG's Netcast internet TV system which lets you watch BBC iPlayer; subscribe to a few pay to watch film and music services and access to social networking sites Twitter and Facebook as well as weather and google maps features - which may be handy to find out the traffic before you go to work. The Netcast system shows the limit of the motion controller - you can get all the way to the BBC iPlayer screens and it stops working and you have to switch to the button controller - which is a crying shame. Netcast could also do with more content - a sony device has channel 5 and lovefilm compatability which are both missing from the LG. Putting in 2012 on BluRay the first thing you notice is that the picture is absolutely stunning; the end of the world never looked so good. It is far brighter and more colorful thanks to higher contrast than my Sharp. . If you find it too bright you can dial it back to save some power (it even shows an eco guage so you can see how much power you are using.) Watching HD content from the integrated iPlayer also shows a strong picture with only really compression artifacts visible during fast movement. Watching a standard DVD or content from an Apple iTunes program shows the LX9900 can do an excellent job of scaling the image to fill the screen; you are left with a sharp picture rather than something that looks smoothed and averaged out. When you manage to find a 3d bluray disk and put on your 3d glasses and you get that wonderful cinema 3d experience in your living room. The LX9900 also works well with 3d games on both Playstation (such as GT5) and xbox 360. I have only tried GT5 and its definitely going to be more than just a gimic for games; the cars have more depth as do the interiors which make it all feel that bit more realistic. It seems to work best with the lights turned down for that full cinematic experience. The glasses are about a 100 pounds a set so make sure you look after them - and try not to get too many friends around ;) The 2d playback of this tv is absolutely outstanding - far better than anything i have seen before and that alone would warrant 5*'s and make it a strong recommendation. My few negatives like the few niggles i have with the controllers don't amount to much compared to the act of watching a film on the screen. The 3d function really works - but there is little content at the moment (i have 1 bluray and 2 games) but that will change in 2011.

Best for HD picture quality,
This review is from: LG 47LX9900 47-inch Widescreen Full LED 3D Infinia Internet TV with Freeview HD (Electronics)
This is an outstanding TV for a number of reasons:-The full LED backlighting makes a significant difference to the image depth and quality in standard (non 3D) viewing which, let's face it, is what people watch most of the time. It really is superb, compared to any edge-lit LED TV I've seen. The majority of my viewing is HD content via a Sky HD box, this TV excels at that compared to various others I looked at including the latest Panasonic plasmas and Samsung LCD/LEDs. It handles motion very well - important if you are a football fan. The design of this TV is stunning. Very thin bezel. The sound from the TV speakers isnt bad at all. Had my previous TV hooked up to a home cinema system because the TV sound was so bad - not the case with the LX9900, in fact I've hardly switched the home cinema on at all since getting the LG. Watching iplayer or youtube on it is a breeze, works very well using the LG Netcast feature. Couple of words of caution - if your TV is positioned directly opposite a window or light source, reflections may be an issue. The screen is very reflective. Also, I do see some vertical banding when watching football. This is pretty common with LED TVs however and is not enough of an issue to persuade me to knock a star off. So, 5 stars, highly recommended and at the current price of on or around £1,000 it's frankly a bargain - it was £2,500 only a few months ago.

I bought this TV about two months ago and I am most impressed with itThis is the best picture quality I have seen even in any Showroom, the remote controls are very instinctive and easy to use, the sound from its own speakers is not bad for a flat panel and it looks spectacular The 3d works well and as described but this is not the reason I bought this one it was for its HD picture quality
