This is probably the best value 42 inch Tv you can buy in Europe. Slim, sleek and with a very up to date design. I first bought the 42pt353 in Spain which has an inbuilt HD tuner and resolution of 1366 x 768 in comparison to the UK models 1024 x 768, freeview only. Both HD ready, both look great with an HD source. I have a philips upscaling DVD and the HD tuner to confirm this. Spain's freeview HD runs at 1080i and 720p, the DVD inputs a 1080p signal through, all look very good. The freeview picture is also nice , although it will depend with the source channel, they can vary a lot! Sd satellite is also nice and clean.
Both models have a cam input for pay per view, radio channels which can be played with the screen turned off. Sound is very acceptable for a flat screen although note that there are no analogue outputs, so you need to buy a digital to analogue converter to use with speakers or analogue amp. Worth mentioning as well is that the screen is glassy and therefore you may have some issues in a very sunny room, obviously night ok. Media player works well and decodes mkv, divx, avi, jpeg, mpeg, mp3 and will read an ntfs hard drive. Only thing it does not do is record. Worth looking at LG's site for full details.
So with my good experience, i got my Dad one in the UK. Can confirm that the UK model is also very good and when looking around the high street and the internet a great price. The Menu is sufficiently easy to operate, which is important for older generations. Remote control also functions well and looks good.
Had mine since April, no problems to date. The TV is made in Poland, so EU production which is a plus. Got dad's September.
So to sum up, if you require good value, a great picture for the money ,a sexy looking telly and don't require full HD, I cannot recommend more. It has good features that can be used or not, at the end of the day it's a telly.
