    Amazon Verified Purchase
Firstly, the Freeview HD picture is as good as I have ever seen. A friend of mine has a 42" Sony which cost a few hundred pounds more than this - but is certainly no better to look at in terms of picture quality. Watching the World Cup footie on BBC-HD or ITV-HD, images are sharp and fast, with absolutely no noticeable ghosting. Colours are generally very natural - the only thing that isn't perfect is the red colour, which I understand is an inherent problem with LCD technology. Reds are just a tiny bit garish, but it's nothing serious, especially at the price.

Upon playing around with this brilliant TV for a while, I was pleasantly surprised by the addition of what is effectively a built-in media player. Each of its 2 USB ports will take either a USB flash stick or an external hard drive up to 1TB (FAT32 format), and the TV will play a whole range of movie file formats (avi, divx, mkv, mov, wmv, mp4, m4v, to name but a few). The only restriction is that a single folder cannot contain more than 1000 objects (files or other folders) - which shouldn't be a problem for most. I have found that it won't play absolutely every movie file thrown at it - for some reason it doesn't seem to like 720x304 XviD/avi films (standard def 2.35:1 ratio). Again, this should hardly be a problem for most - in my case I just need to re-rip some of my films to a more compatible format. But it does seem a bit strange that it won't play these, and yet it will play a whole range of other resolutions from lower res XviD material right up to 720p and 1080p HD material (in wmv, mkv and other HD formats).
It also supports external subtitles (srt and other sub formats). This is great for those, like me, who download lots of foreign language films.

It will also play slideshows of jpeg images, and music files. Unfortunately the music format is limited to mp3 (up to 320 kbps). I would have like to have seen some lossless support (e.g. FLAC, APE, WV)as all my music is stored in lossless formats, but maybe this will come in a future firmware upgrade, who knows.

Sound quality for general viewing is absolutely fine. I found I had to adjust the bass up a little from the factory setting to make it more agreeable to my ears. Obviously for the serious Hollywood film fan you'll want to hook this up to an external audio system with earth-shaking bass, but for those like me who enjoy more art-house type films and documentaries, etc, the sound is perfectly acceptable.

So for an HDTV with high contrast ratio (70,000:1), 100hz refresh rate, genuine Freeview HD, and multimedia support, the LG 32LD690 is certainly worth considering in this price range.

    This is an excellent TV.
1st class picture - good sound - plenty of extras - i.e. internet TV, wi fi,energy saving.
Not tested Freeview hd yet as it does not arrive in my area until 2011 - but this TV shows a lot of promise.
100 hertz is usefull on sports channels and action movies - colour is excellent.Very user friendly.
Only slight niggle - power off switch only places TV in standbye - needs to be switched off at plug.
    Would definately recommend this TV.
Bought my TV off Electrical Experience - but would not recommend them as Customer Support disappointing.
    Should have stuck with Amazon.

    LG 32" is a Winner! 19 Oct 2010
I spent several months reading reviews and surfing the net for a tv that I felt would tick all the boxes on my wish list. It became apparent that I could expect to pay circa £800-£1000 if I stuck to the main functions that I wanted i.e. internet connection, USB port, multiple HDMI, full HD. Then a friend at work told me that he had an LG tv and was delighted with the quality. I then concentrated my review searches on LG models and found the LG 32LD690. Installation was a breeze and the picture and sound quality are first class. My son, who is an electronic geek and spent a fortune on a leading brand system, is amazed. My one gripe is that there is no on/off button on the set but apart from that small niggle, I am well satisfied with my purchase. I am now looking at buying an LG recorder. LG are building an excellent reputation for themselves wkith quality products at affordable prices.
