So, the school of the silver mic, do Akhenaton and Shurik'n belong there? Sure do, tracks like "petit frere", "le saga" and "dangerous" show that these guys can give people like Sunz of Mann a run for his money, and Timbo King. Their lyrics on "petit frere" are inspirational - talking about little brother breaking into cars, and the media coverage of deliquant behaviour in Marsaille.
But this isn't the only good songs on Ecole De Micro Argent, far from: "Nes Sous La Meme Etoile" is the tale of how people are born in the same area, but some get rich quick while others have to stay in the ghetto; "Empire Du Cote Obscur" is a look into Marsaille's ghettos; "Regarde" with it's cool soundscape and "Chez La Mac", all about dealers and such.
This is an amazing album, just as good as their last two, but with a nice difference. The gang don't let us down, which is really nice. The beats are fresh and up to date for 1998, fits in nicely with everything else on the scene at the time.
If you don't have this, it's worth getting, you won't regret it. Specially if you like the Wu Tang Clan.
And the lyrics are SO HEAVY, if you have a poor grasp of french like me, just take time to read the lyrics. They really are impressive.
I was fortunate enough to drive through Marseille last year in the summer with this album blaring out of the car. I got a few odd looks, being in a British car listening to IAM - and also alot of respeckk!
Buy this album if its the only French Hip Hop album you ever buy.
