I've been thinking about getting a lensbaby for a while, but it wasnt top of my list. It took me a while to get the hang of this lens - using internet resources rather than the limited accompanying information. However internet information is plentiful both for artistic and technical needs. This is not a lens for straightforward images, and I purchased it to do something different with autumn colours. The objective was achieved and I loved the results. It would be easier to show an image than describe it (why cant I upload an image to this review - would make sense when its a lens I'm reviewing and its the end result that is important). I took a series of pictures, standing in the same spot, of the same object (a tree) and got some very pleasing results, both with these and others taken during the same day. By the end of the first day of using it I was quite confident about moving the sweet spot around. So far I have only used the lens on a handheld camera, and still need to try it with a tripod.

This is a totally manual lens, well made and sturdy, fairly wide angle, unlike other lensbabies f.stop is incorporated. It is rather an expensive lens for a probably limited use, but is light, small and sufficiently durable to have a permanent place in my camera bag. It wont come out every time I go out to take photographs, but it will come out regularly.

I love this little lens. Purchased to try some new images and I can say if you are stuck in a creative rut this would definitely be helpful. The lens is very well made and can stand a lot of messing with. Please spend the extra on the composer pro it is definitely well worth it. The sweet 35 lens is a dream. I love them both and wish I could keep them all on the camera the whole time. They totally suit a creative fine art photographer.

When Eastman and Kodak were thinking about photography. This would be the kind of lens they would want you to use. Evey picture you take with it is an emotional journey. If you looking for a technical review, sorry know idea, however I borrowed a tilt and shift lens, which was amazing for pictures and video across the vertical and horizontal plain of view. The lens baby ball joint gives much more freedom of movement and needs some practice to lock down your focus.

Great wee lens. Makes you think about composition and focus which is a good thing. The sweet spot is small so I havent tried anything moving but enjoying being creative.

Pro Improvements 12 Jun. 2011
By Marisa Williams - Published on Amazon.com
Huge fan of this combination - the Lensbaby Composer Pro with the Sweet 35 optic. While I purchased the Composer Pro from Amazon with the Double Glass optic, I've been testing the Composer Pro with my Sweet 35 optic (also purchased from Amazon). Such an improvement in terms of control over the first generation or non-pro Lensbaby Composer. While I always loved my Composer and the results it produced, I found it difficult to produce consistent results in terms of sharp focus and sweet-spot control. I feel like these issues are now headaches past with the Composer Pro. In essentially all of my test shots, right out of the box, the focus and sweet spot is just as and where I intended. Wish I'd had this lens with me a few weeks ago when I went on a photo trip to Italy, but just glad that it exists now and can travel with me on my next photo voyage. The control and ease of use of this new lens with the Sweet 35 optic will be a joy to shoot with. I can't wait!

Will try to upload some shots taken with the Composer Pro and Sweet 35, soon.

Great Product! 1 Jan. 2013
By Tim - Published on Amazon.com
The Lensbaby Composer Pro with Sweet 35 Optic is a great product, exactly as advertised.

About the lens body: The composer Pro is very high quality construction, that rivals the stellar quality of the Nikon pro quality lenses. The focus ring is smooth, and the ability to lock the Composer at a certain angle allows for reproduction of the tilting effect from one shot to another. The mechanism that locks the composer can be opened up all the way too, allowing free movement of the Composer, and any amount of resistance can be set in between!

About the Sweet 35 optic: This is a GLASS optic, with a 12 blade aperture, encased in a metal housing. The quality of construction can be seen through and through. The aperture adjustment is smooth, fast and accurate. I cannot wait to get to know this optic better; I am very impressed after using it the first few times, and the ceiling is unlimited.

Now, on to the other information...
First, this is an enclosed glass optic, and Lensbaby is very clear that their accessory's built for their plastic optics are not compatible. Before you complain, you should realize that the plastic optic accessories will deteriorate the quality of the photo you can take with the glass optics.
Second, check and double check that the Composer Pro is compatible with YOUR camera. It is not the manufacturers fault if you buy a non-compatible product for your camera. Lensbaby seems to have a version of the Composer Pro compatible with most DSLR cameras.
Third, as others have pointed out, there is a learning curve with this lens. THAT DOES NOT MAKE IT A BAD PRODUCT! It just means you have to practice; if this does not sound appealing to you, then this is not the product for you. Also, if you leave your camera on "Auto", the you will probobaly hate this product... you WILL have to use your camera in MANUAL!
Last, if you fully rely on auto focus, then DO NOT buy this product. You will hate it. Lensbaby is very clear that there is NO AUTO FOCUS mechanism in the lens body. You have been warned.

This is a great product, but it is not for everyone. Personally, I love the product and the creative edge it gives my photos. On the other hand, my wife would hate this lens due to the difficulty associated with the fully manual experience. At the end of the day, if you are up for the challenge... you WILL NOT be disappointed with your purchase.

Be aware of accessory incompatibility 31 July 2011
By Omega Man - Published on Amazon.com
The Sweet 35 optic is quite nice and deserves all of the praise it gets, but be aware of the following issues:

- While it's great that you don't have to switch aperture disks with this one, it also means that you can't use the "creative" aperture disks with it.

- The threads on the front of the lens don't fit the macro/teleconverter accessories sold by Lensbaby :(

If those issues, or at least the 2nd one, were "fixed" somehow then it would be absolutely perfect.

There is something magical about it.... 24 Jan. 2013
By Lucy L. - Published on Amazon.com
I was reluctant to purchase this, after studying the LB webpage, and a lot of pages online you can find about LB, I was convinced the composer pro and sweet 35 would be the one the buy for me. A little bit pricey I thought. And it is. Compared to the lenses you usually get in this price range, that contain a lot of glass, not to mention ED, and whatever features, this one is simple, materialwise. But looking at the results, the pictures have something no other lens produces of course. No way one could mimic the look in post prosessing, the picture with it's sweet spot is genuine, individual, awesome, because it generated in the camera. The bouquet is interesting, because it also contains a kind of blur, sometimes almost looks like a mixture of motion blur and distortion. With the variety of aperture numbers, which are very easy to set, there is no limit to creativity. I really like it, YOU decide what the picture will be, by setting everything manual, I love that. It is almost like an excursion back to the basics of photography. And this is the backside for anyone who is used to automodus and autofocus, this will not work. So whoever is considering to obtain this lens should be familiar with his camera, and how it works beyond auto. There is nothing wrong with using all the auto features, but then you will not be able to get anything out of this, besides a lot of frustration. This point has been made in previous reviews, I only mention it that no one gets my review wrong.
Long story short, magic little thing, really awakes a lot of creative ideas, at least for me.

composer Pro and the Sweet 35 is a sweet combination 8 Sept. 2011
By David - Published on Amazon.com

Just received this lens combination. Amazon shipped a new lens with nothing missing from the box. Information is minimal so you must go online to Lensbaby to see all the options available, they have great tutorials and lots of images to look at. I have to say that this lens will be a challenge to master. But what fun it will be. So dust off the artistic side of your brain and get as creative as you dare. I am sure lensbaby will spice up your photography sessions.
The sweet 35 is a stand alone lens. It will not accept any of the optional accessories but the ease of adjusting the aperture makes it that much easier to use. Not sure if they are planning accessories for this lens.
