I bought this adapter having decided to upgrade my Acer Aspire laptop to use an SDD for my system disk, but still wanting to retain the capacity of my 640gb HDD. As I rarely use optical media these days I opted to replace the optical drive with a caddy so I could have two internal hard drives and buy an external USB DVD writer.

The adapter was dispatched almost immediately from Germany and arrived four days later and came with the adapter, a packet of screws for fitting, and a small pouch to protect the drive that you've removed.

The hard bit was finding how to remove the optical drive from the laptop (much easier than I was making it), but having found the right screw to undo fitting my original HDD into the caddy and then fixing this in place was a doddle.

I had been slightly concerned that the contoured edge of my laptop would make the caddy look out of place as it comes with a straight vertical plate, but having first tested that all was working, I removed the caddy and investigated swapping the face plate from the Acer optical drive on to the caddy. All it took was a couple of clips to be undone on the DVD drive and the fact plate dropped off and repeating the exercise with the caddy's face plate allowed me to clip the original plate onto the caddy and hey-presto... now the unit looks indistinguishable from before.

All in all its an excellent investment that has allowed me to massively expand my options on my laptop. Highly recommended!

Bought this to replace the optical drive in an Acer Aspire 5750G.
Works brilliantly and installs easily.
A few things that might help.
Remove the original DVD drive by unscrewing the single screw located next to the optical tray.
The drive then slides out.
Eject the disc tray using a paperclip through the hole and unclip the drive plastic end plate. Held in place by 2 clips at the ends. These be pushed in with a flat blade screwdriver.
Unscrew the metal clip with the retaining screw hole from the other end of the drive. This is held in place with 2 small screws.
Remove the endplate from the drive caddy and replace it with the original end plate. Just clicks in. If it doesn't check the orientation.
Screw the original metal retaining clip into the other end of the caddy using the original screws. There are screw holes in the caddy at the correct position, although it took a bit of force to get the screws going. Make sure the that retaining clip is in the correct orientation.
Install your SSD.
Slide the caddy into the optical bay.
The retaining clip should line up nicely with the screw opening in the bottom of the laptop.
Enjoy!!

Having swapped my conventional HD for an SSD, eventually space became an issue. Because I had not used the CD/DVD drive in a long time, I decided to buy this caddy and pop the original HD in place, so as to use the SSD for the Operating System and the older, conventional one for data.

The item arrived promptly and in packaging that was adequate to protect it. Inside the box was the caddy adapter, contained within a soft bag which was also ideal for carrying the removed CD/DVD drive. Also supplied were four small screws.

Fitting it was a breeze after the service manual for the laptop had been located online: First the laptop battery was removed, then the fixing screw of the CD/DVD drive. Using moderate pressure, the unit was slid out of the laptop.

The original CD/DVD drive had a bulky plastic fascia which was held in place by means of four small plastic clips. It was a simple matter to carefully unclip this and swap it with the corresponding one on the new caddy, in order to retain the 'look' of the laptop. The securing ring on the back of the CD/DVD unit was then swapped on to the same place on the caddy: This was done in order to prevent the new unit from accidentally popping out while the computer was in use, although it seemed to be quite securely held in place by only the SATA port.

The old HDD was placed in the caddy which was then eased fully into the CD bay. Finally the fixing screw and battery were replaced. Job done.

Update: The HDD and SSD have been swapped over, so that the SSD is in the Leicke caddy and the HDD is now in its original bay in the computer. The move was made because the HDD was becoming very hot in the caddy: There is probably not enough air flow here to keep it cool enough.

Basically does exactly as it says on the tin !
Comes well wrapped and in timely fashion , with a very sleek carry pouch ( that I was not expecting ... bonus )
I used it with a SSD drive on my 1 yr old laptop ... fitting it is simple , and now my laptop starts from cold to Windows in seconds :) , and I have the benefit of 2 hard drives .
The unit is quite robust , better that another one purchased on Amazon that I was not happy with . Important if you are putting an expensive SSd into it IMO.
I am not an IT or electronics pro ... just a regular amature home user . So the fact that I could fit it in minutes should make anyone feel competent of opening a screw or two . It is so simple to do .
The price is in line with other units out there , but Leicke is by far the better out there in terms of build.
Customer service was also excellent , not that I needed help or anything ... They just followed up to make sure I got on OK ? ... This was a first ...
Gladly reccommend the product and company ( Leicke ) , as I purchased directly from them via Amazon
