Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
Lego continue to celebrate Star Wars' 30th anniversary with an updated version of their great AT-AT Walker from 2004.
Built around the same frame as the previous release, this model has several refinements which give you a much better kit of everyone's favourite Rebel stomping machine.
The most amazing thing about this kit is the motorized function which has the walker moving in forward (or reverse) through specially jointed legs and it's head moves from side to side as it does so.
The head section has been enlarged to allow for 2 figures to sit in the cockpit (one behind the other), moving chin guns and opening roof hatch. The main body has better plating over the outer hull. The Speeder Bike Garage and Troop Compartment of the first release have gone however to allow for the motor and battery compartment to go inside. You can open either side of the main body to push the switch which activates the motorized drive unit.
The kit stands a whopping 32cm tall, 42 cm from head to stern and 18 cm across giving one of the largest kits for the minifigures to date.
Construction time is about 3 hours and some sections are a little fiddly, especially the alignment for the legs. You have to get this right first time or you'll have to disassemble it later and start again. Because of this, younger builders may find this hard to put together. The kit comprises 1117 pieces, not including the figures and weapons.
You get 4 minifigures with the AT-AT: an AT-AT Driver, a Snowtrooper with a blaster rifle, Luke Skywalker (Pilot) with a grapple rope and for the first time ever - General Veers.
This is definitely one of the best Star Wars kits Lego have ever put out for sale and it's an absolute must have toy for kids and adults alike.
Available for £90 at a Lego shop near you.

..it fell apart a lot when my 7 year old son played with it. Never mind, we've glued the bits as they fall off! The parts are quite specialised anyway so they're not suitable for many different kinds of models. The walking action is great. Bring on Lego Skywalker!!!

missing parts 28 Oct 2011
This is a huge set with hundreds of pieces, unfortunately loads were missing. I know I should have laid them all out and checked they were all there before starting the build but I've done a lot of lego and never had this problem before. Lego do send you replacement parts for free but there was so much missing that this was very time consuming and took me hours of cross referencing long part numbers - then only half of the ordered pieces turned up! It looks like a great lego kit but beware, the more there is the greater the chance of it arriving incomplete.
