This review is from: LEGO Power Miners 8964: Titanium Command Rig (Toy)
This was a birthday present for my son's 6th birthday. He managed to build it all him self over a few days which gave him a great sense of achievement :-) Bits do fall off while playing but the great thing about lego is you can just push it back together. Great value for money, hours of entertainment due to the rig also being a vehicle. Also includes a giant rock monster, who can throw things (generally little rock monsters) during battle.

All of the Power Miners toys offer a challenging but achievable level of complexity. Our 7 year old can build them with encouraging supervision and minimal adult interference. The models 'do things' - drills turn with the wheels and cranes operate.
Once built they are fairly durable and can withstand fairly vigorous playing without falling apart, like some Lego models regularly do. You get a lot more for your money than, say, Lego Star Wars toys where Lego have to pay a licensing fee. Power Miners are of the same scale as other Lego, which makes role play using other Lego themed models, such as Mars Mission, Aqua Raiders and Lego Agents feasible. There is a good range of larger and more complex Power Miner models and the Command Rig is a recent addition. There are not many small, pocket-money sized models available in the range.

This review is from: LEGO Power Miners 8964: Titanium Command Rig (Toy)
My son (aged 9 1/2) loves LEGO and every Christmas it is close to the top of his list. This Command Rig is certainly more durable than previous sets have been including Star Wars and LEGO City however, LEGO have still got some work to do. It was great fun to build and it was managed with little or no adult help ... much to my husbands frustration! Once built there are plenty of moving parts to play with but as always, it is too fragile to last in the intended shape much past Boxing Day. As with all LEGO it is expensive but it is one of the better sets that he has had so far.
