I've bought this Marvel Superheroes game for my Marvel Superhero mad cannot live without his Xbox son! Or was it really for. . . .me? :)
We must have nearly all the lego franchise games that have been brought out on the Xbox. The first was probably Bionicle and they've came a long way on since then. Lego Star Wars, Batman, Indiana Jones, Lord Of The Rings and Harry Potter amongst our favourites in the past. Batman 2 DC Superheroes probably the best!
This Marvel Superheroes game easily beats the lot by a long shot in my opinion.
The story in this game is that the Silver Surfer comes to earth to herald the arrival of Galactus, chased by Iron Man and attacked by Doctor Doom his surfboard is destroyed and breaks up into cosmic bricks that are spread worldwide. Loki and Doctor Doom assemble a team of villains to collect the bricks for devious purposes of course!
Nick Fury calls upon The Avengers and various other Marvel Superheros to try to stop Loki and Doctor Doom. . . .
The game play is brilliant as ever. Great comical dialogue from the characters with some great in-jokes, brilliant movie quality cut scenes, tons of side games alongside the main story game mostly set in a spot on Lego version of New York/Manhattan in which you will find all the well known landmarks such as Grand Central Station, The Empire Estate Building, Central Park as well as the well loved Marvel landmarks of The Daily Bugle, The Baxter Building, Oscorp, Stark Tower and more! I'll let you find them yourselves!Read more ›
You'd think by now TT games' tried and tested formula for Lego video games would be getting tired. This plays similarly to so many former Lego Games, yet it does bring lots of new elements to the table.
The story is long enough to get your money's worth out of - if the plot gets a bit silly and disjointed at times. The side quests and extras are great, they definitely extend play time and keep you coming back once you've finished the story. The addition of large characters like the Hulk, Abomination and Thing is great, they're fun to play and add a new dimension to this tried and tested formula. Flying characters are great fun too and surprisingly easy and fun to control. The open world capacity for this game is great, you can fly around the city independantly as flying characters and meet each other in the air! You can fly up to the Helicarrier and beyond! The use of vehicles is fun too.
The main downside to this is you can't shake the feeling that you've been here before. It borrows from previous games heavily, but there's so much new stuff to play with it really makes it worth playing anyway. The mini-games and puzzles are an interesting new element, and the voice acting is great. It's a great game for younger players, but I suspect seasoned teenager 'Lego Games' players might find it all a bit easy, simply as a lot of the game mechanics are developed from earlier games. I still think it's great though!

Gameplay is as you would expect from a Lego game, simple but varied, and most importantly fun. I'm certainly not a child anymore but I still enjoy the rewarding gameplay. As stated above this is a long game and I think after completing all the main story levels first play through I was on about 20% game completion. It's once you get down to exploring Lego New York City and start doing little side quests, collecting yellow bricks, saving Stan Lee from peril etc. the game slowly reaches 100% completion. Saying this however, there was not one point in my time playing that I thought it was tedious or irritating. There is always something different to do or collect when you move about the city.
A little gripe that has been mentioned before by others however. The controls for a flying character such as Iron Man are frustrating at times. The idea is great and there's no better way to get around the city than flying above the skyscrapers but the handling controls could have been so much better. The right stick should have been used to control flight height but instead this is operated by pressing A or B (Xbox). These controls are particularly annoying in the many flying mini-races and I fear kids will struggle to complete these.Read more ›
