Since Lego does not offer any true military-themed sets, the Indiana Jones models are the next best thing. With this particular set you get both a "Jeep" and an amazing plane. NOTE: this set was offered from Lego originally at [...]; with over 600 pieces the set was a bargain. It is no longer available from Lego at all, so consider wisely when purchasing from resellers since they surely have built in additional profit on this collector set.
The smaller components of the set (Jeep, some containers, assorted small items) are not really unusual. You do get the Russian Girl Spy minifigure with the bobbed hairdo along with other bad guys and Indy. Neat "special" Lego piece of course is the Crystal Skull itself.
It's the airplane that is the real star of the set. Considering its size and wingspan, the design of it is surprisingly sturdy (so it can be actually "played with" unlike some sets with are almost display-only). The cockpit pops off for insertion of a pilot and the entire body has a removable top for easy access to the inside. Lots of other neat detailing.
As a couple of other reviewers noted, this was a more challenging build than some sets. Nearly all of the 600+ pieces are in the plane, after all! The build instructions include the numbered baggies of parts, which makes the process much easier. A Lego fan should have no problems, but I could see an smaller child or inexperienced builder getting frustrated with some of the detail. Even for a newbie, this is less than an hour to get together (and thet's part of the fun, remember!).
