Sweet - but buy direct 30 Jun 2008
By JD - Published on Amazon.com
Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
Hello. First off, if you buy this directly in a Toys R Us store it is only 50% of the cost here on Amazon. I'm not sure why, but there you go.

The set is sweet, no question. Obviously the focal point is going to be that airplane. I don't know any other lego set that offers an airplane with as much charm as this one. It really captures the look of a 50's era utility plane. The airplane is smaller than the larger planes coming out in the airport and cargo sets, so just room for a single pilot in the front and then a couple figs in the middle. There is also room in the back for a crate. The airplane has a door for access to the cargo hold, but doesn't have one for the figs, but the top of the airplane removes easily.

In addition to the airplane you get a nice jeep which and a cool tractor. The tractor comes with a trailer for cargo and a stairway for access to the airplane. The set also includes an assortment of figs (the standard ones for the Indiana Jones sets).

In the end, I think the set is a little pricey but a better deal than some of the other Lego Indiana Jones sets. As this is an exclusive and limited, I think the airplane will be highly popular later.

Lego Peril in Peru Review (I couldn't think of a better title! :( 20 Sep 2008
A Kid's Review - Published on Amazon.com

Well, what can I say? JD pretty much summed up my opinion on this Lego set. Being the son of a pilot, my dad and I know alot about avaition, and from what we can tell, the airplane is a Douglas Commercial 3, or DC-3 for short. It is a very durable set when fully assenbled, and the figs are great. I absolutely LOVE the crystal skull that comes with the set! It can be used in place of a minifig's head, (there will be some very strange Lego Indiana Jones vidoes on Youtube soon!) It is a great set, though. It's definatly worth the money, but follow JD's advice and buy it at Toys"R"Us, and save ALOT of money.

Great Lego airplane for aviation enthusiasts 17 Jun 2010

Since Lego does not offer any true military-themed sets, the Indiana Jones models are the next best thing. With this particular set you get both a "Jeep" and an amazing plane. NOTE: this set was offered from Lego originally at [...]; with over 600 pieces the set was a bargain. It is no longer available from Lego at all, so consider wisely when purchasing from resellers since they surely have built in additional profit on this collector set.

The smaller components of the set (Jeep, some containers, assorted small items) are not really unusual. You do get the Russian Girl Spy minifigure with the bobbed hairdo along with other bad guys and Indy. Neat "special" Lego piece of course is the Crystal Skull itself.

It's the airplane that is the real star of the set. Considering its size and wingspan, the design of it is surprisingly sturdy (so it can be actually "played with" unlike some sets with are almost display-only). The cockpit pops off for insertion of a pilot and the entire body has a removable top for easy access to the inside. Lots of other neat detailing.

As a couple of other reviewers noted, this was a more challenging build than some sets. Nearly all of the 600+ pieces are in the plane, after all! The build instructions include the numbered baggies of parts, which makes the process much easier. A Lego fan should have no problems, but I could see an smaller child or inexperienced builder getting frustrated with some of the detail. Even for a newbie, this is less than an hour to get together (and thet's part of the fun, remember!).
