It’s time to explore the World of HEROICA, a new series of exciting fantasy adventures from LEGO Games. Every HEROICA game is a unique adventure to build and explore, with new heroes, monsters, weapons and treasure. Each of the four sets takes place in a different landscape, from water and forest to caves and castles. All of the boxes can be combined to create bigger and more detailed missions with different levels of gameplay.
GameplayBased on classic dungeon games, players are tasked with saving this once peaceful place of culture and beauty from the monsters which overrun it. Characters have individual skills and personalities, and can collect upgrades on the way, travelling through tunnels, unlocking secret doors, fighting enemies and collecting treasure, weapons, potions and keys. Using the unique LEGO buildable dice, symbols decide on who wins in battle against different monsters, how many health points are lost, and which special weapons players can use.
Rearrange the board to create different adventures, combine regions to expand your game and collect all four games to create the ultimate HEROICA world!
Castle Fortaan has fallen to the Goblin King and his army of monsters. You must find a way past the Goblin horde to defeat the King, but can you discover his secret battle plans and return with the Helmet of Protection?

This is the fourth set in the heroica series and by far the biggest coming with about 315 pieces. Its the third set I've picked up for my little son who loves playing them. When layed out in the standard layout it measures about 30cm by 30cm. It can be played as a standalone game or linked together with any or all of the other heroica sets. You get the rulebook ,map and instructions in the box as well as four heroes and eleven monsters. You get a lego dice (die) to make and 11 rooms and 10 corridors to construct, these can be layed out in the three diagrams they supply or just use your imagination. This set has the same basic rules as the others but like the others has options for even more rules, so you can make it as basic or complex as you like. But as my 4 year old plays it with most of the rules included so it is definitely not difficult to understand. The basics are the same as the Draida set where you roll a dice to move and roll again to wound the monsters. This set has some good additions in doors that require keys to open them, so you can make full use of your layout to put the keys far away from the doors. There is a couple of extra potions to find and weapons to buy, also treasure chests to see if you can find some gold. The only minus is that the monsters in this set are basically the same as the Draida set, whereas the caverns of nathuz and the forest of waldurk have unique monsters to overcome. It is a fun game which lasts 10-20 mins depending on how many sets you have linked together and is a enough time so that smaller children don't get bored. Hope this helps

My son received this for his 10th birthday and I thought, at first, it was too young for him. However, his 6 year old sister and him spent hours putting it together and playing it, almost entranced by their efforts to be the "heroes" and defeat the goblins. As my son is into fantasy games and books - from Harry Potter through to Percy Jackson - the imaginative element of the game appeals to him. His sister liked it as it was not too complex for her to grasp the general concepts of the game and it also allowed her to use her imagination while she played. There are many small pieces so it is not a game for the very young, but for those children 5+ who enjoy lego, fantasy, action and putting their imagination into play this is a very good choice for them. I also think that the price on Amazon - especially at this time of year - is great. I would recommend this and if you are only going to get 1 of the 4 kits/games, go for this one as the smallest of the four would not be anywhere near as enthralling as this which is the largest.

Bought this along with caverns of Nathuz set for my 2 boys, aged 4 and 7 on a rainy half term day. Just the boxes alone set the imagination running, with the 2 boys getting excited by the missions and things to collect. This is definitely the best starter set for a family as you get four player characters. Can highly recommend as the game is brilliant fun and there is loads of replay value. There are 3 variations to play, but there are loads more you can makeup yourself, and with another set this adds even more fun. The boys are already making up news rooms and potions with their existing Lego. Games last anything from 20mins, to an hour when both sets combined. The rules whilst simple, are enough to challenge them and give them a sense of adventure. Even the four year old can play. They love fighting the monsters, collecting the potions, gold and purchasing weapons. The best thing is there is no real winner, as everyone collects stuff that you can take into the next game, so no tears! Thoroughly recommended!
