This is part of Lego's new dinosaur range, this set is the smallest and cheapest of the new dinosaur sets so we thought it would be a good place to start. My little boy is four years old and dinosaur mad, apart from owning some of the lego ninjago spinners (which don't involve much lego building) this is his first lego set.
In the set you get a small dinosaur, Coelophysis (See-low-fye-siss), a lego minifigure, some jungle plants and a jeep.
When we opened the set I have to admit that I thought that the dino was tiny and at about 5cms tall he is small but really in comparrison to the figure and the jeep he's a good size, I think I forgot how small lego pieces are. The dinosaur is made of a sort of rubber material which makes him sturdy yet his tail etc is flexible. On his back there is a lego stud so the figure can sort of ride him if he gets bored of trying to shoot him. The dinosaur has green stripes across his back ("so he can camoflage Mummy") and my son like to hide him behind the jungle so he can sneak up on the man.
The minifigure has a brown hat and looks fairly rugged. He comes with a gun which you attatch a syringe to, tranquilliser gun I assume? We got a few extra pieces in our box (not sure if this was intentional?) including a second syringe which will probably come in handy as it's very small and could easily get lost.
The jeep requires the most building, it isn't a complex Lego build but was a bit tricky for my son to do all by himself but it was nice to do together and I don't think a child would need to be too much older before they could manage alone. The jeep has small horns on the front and two removeable parts on the side (no idea what their purpose is, sorry). There are two missiles which attach to the jeep which you can fire by pushing them quickly.
This set is small but my son is having a lot of fun with it. Lego isn't cheap but it is good quality and very durable. I have had a look at the other dino sets and they look really good but they all cost a lot more so better for birthday/Christmas. Good starter set though or a nice addition if you already have one of the bigger sets, would definately recommend to fans of Lego or dinosaurs.
