Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
The previous Duplo police station set (5602) featured a small building, three figures (2 policeman and 1 robber) and one vehicle (a police dog van complete with dog). This new version has much more included with a double-sized building, an additional figure and three vehicles: a car, a helicopter and a motorbike. These vehicles were a big hit with our 3 and 7 year old, and really make this set a big improvement on the last edition in terms of value and playability (they are large enough to be stand alone toys).

As you'd expect with Duplo, the set is well constructed from a safety point of view, given the target age-range of 2-5, with large construction pieces and nothing that could become sharp, eaten or put in nostrils or ears! The vehicles are largely made of one solid piece each so easily survive fairly rough play and so work well as toys, not simply something to assemble. One thing to note is that the police station building, which comes in fairly typical lego-construction form, is way too complicated for a toddler or even older child to put together, but at least is open for smaller hands to "adapt" it during play once someone slightly older has done the initial construction. A positive from this is, as children get older, there's scope to use the pieces more creatively than the one design in the instructions to increase the play value of the set.

Although the ages of 2-5 are the guide on the box, the number of vehicles and the cops and robbers theme made this set a hit with both our 3 and 7 year old boys and is something they can, and do, both play with together. The solid construction and lack of small, easy to lose, pieces means it should have a long lifespan too.

I gave this to my nieces, ages 2.5, 4.5 and 7.5. I wasn't really aiming at the 7yr old as you might imagine - given the age range on the product is 2-5. The really great thing about Lego though, even Duplo, is that they ALL love it.

The 2 year old needed help of course - but being a lego loving aunty I was right there! Where she really needed help was in making it as the box suggests - which is not too much of an issue for me, I'm happy for her to use her imagination... and she sometimes needed help lining up the blocks so they click onto each other and fitting the more complex parts in. She totally couldn't put the vehicles together so that was a job for me - but she utterly loved that the car is 'a real one' with flashing lights etc. She had a great time - if somewhat freestyle - and this set provided her with a pretty good challenge when she played with it without her siblings.

The 4 year old wanted to make it exactly like all the pictures. No problem with fitting blocks together for her - or figuring out what goes where to make each picture work. She had a wonderful time telling me the stories of why this guy is a policeman and why this guy has been locked up. At one point the bad guy had a two room cell - she didn't feel he should have to live in the same room as the loo - bless her! She was very much on his side and objected to him being called the bad guy! The set did make her think about the construction - and putting the vehicles together took a little extra time - but she did manage it alone - with just some suggestions from me.

I was quite surprised that the 7 year old was also keen to play with it.

I'm no great expert on toys, but got this as a gift for a 3 year old who seemed to enjoy playing with it... or destroying it... I'm not sure which was the ultimate goal there. With is in mind I invited said 3 year old to write a review of the product and this is what he produced:

Now, I don't know about you, but that looks like a cautious thumbs up to me, so I'm going to go with 'fair to above average' here.

I was always a massive Lego fan in my younger days, and our attic was taken over by me and my brother as we created our very own Lego Land- split into Pirate, Castle, Space, and City sections. I admit that the city section was my least favourite as there was only so much wild imaginative spins you could put on cars, police, and fire stations. But nevertheless, many hours were lost arresting pirates and locking them up in my police station.
Duplo is geared towards the younger fan and this updated Police Station has all the features your child would want- the station itself, a few characters, a car, bike, and helicopter. It's all sturdy as to be expected, and it's easy to build or build with the help of mum or dad.

I got this for my 2 year old nephew. The box is huge so that was a bonus straight away when he saw the size of it! Everything inside comes in pieces so we had to show him all the bits and how it goes together, but he was much more interested in the police car with flashing lights and siren, the helicopter and the motorbike! You get lots with this set, including two policemen, a robber and a helicopter pilot and enough duplo to make more than one version of the police station, cell etc.

His older brother, my 3 year old nephew, was very keen to play too and also loved the set. He was more interested in building up the bricks and then knocking them down.

I imagine it will provide lots of fun for a while to come.
