Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
This is a lovely little Duplo set, suitable for children aged 2-5 years.

The set contains 60 Duplo blocks, including the 26 alphabet blocks, one chair block, 2 window panes, one block with wheels and 2 flower shaped blocks. The set also includes one black cat figure and one little girl figure (figure has plaited hair).

The set includes a thin booklet with up to 10 simple idea's for designing various buildings, a bed, vehicles and a ship/boat with sails.

The blocks come in various shades of orange, green, blue, red and yellow (and includes one white block and one brown block). The predominent colour (one third of the set/20 blocks)in the set are shades of green. I do not know if there is some reason for this, but I feel that the set should have been more evenly split with regards to block colours available.

The alphabet blocks are printed on one side of the block in capital letters only (except for the letter "i" for some reason), which is a little disappointing, as many children first learn their alphabet in small letters, as in "a is for apple", "b is for ball" and it would have been nice to see both upper and lower case printed on the blocks for this reason, so that the child can see both, as they would in school. The letters are printed in bright colours and the majority of them (not all) also have a little picture that correlates to the letter. "A" has an anchor, "B" has a ballerina, etc... I do not think they have gone for the simplest of images to represent the letters however, especially with regards to the age suitability of the set.

It is overall a nice lego starter set for any child, with a modicum of educational value. I just feel that Lego have tried to over complicate it a little for it's target market.

This is a nice medium size set of Duplo that is marketed for use with children aged 2-5 years old. The blocks give enough scope for many imaginative creations to be made, and with the inclusion of a few specialist blocks, such as the cat figure, your child should be well entertained.

My two year old has really enjoyed playing with this set, as her other blocks do not have the alphabet on them as these ones do. The blocks are all different colours and this encourages discussions about colours with your playing child. The alphabet blocks have a picture alongside most of the letters. I did think some of the pictures were a little obscure, when you consider the age-group it is aimed at. An example of this is with the 'F' block which has several people clustered together in the picture. In this case the block picture is meant to represent 'Family', but your average two-year old may not guess that without extra guidance, unless your family is the one in the picture!

Having explored the accompanying booklet, it would appear that LEGO has tried to make this set universal for several languages, and in doing so has had to limit the pictures to those whose words have the same initial letter in all of the languages required. One glaring error I found in this section of the booklet is where they have that 'D is for Dinosaurus', and 'X is for xylofon' under the British flag, Well, the last time I checked this was not how we spell things over here. On the one hand it is a picky thing to make note of, but it would be preferable if the listed spellings were at least checked before issuing.

It has to be noted that the alphabet blocks do not show the lower case letter, only the upper case letters.

This is great toy, as you'd expect with Duplo. The quality is very high and the bricks and bits are bright and durable. In addition to some regular Duplo parts (including a minifigure, a car base and a cat) you get twenty six bricks with the letters of the alphabet on them and a corresponding picture (eg a lion on the L).

From an eduactional point of view, this is great for teaching your child individual letters but it's not much use for spelling things out as there's only one of each letter. You can do simple words like "cat" and "dog" I suppose so it has its uses but you can't do "mummy" and "daddy" for example. I suppose you could buy more than one set, and it is reasonably priced if you decide to go this route.

All in all, a great toy. My son has moved on from Duplo to Lego now but I think this might still get some use as we start to teach him the letters of the alphabet. Recommended.

Anyone reading this review who has not encountered Lego would appear to have been living a different planet for me time. So you don't really need me to tell you about how good Lego is.

This set has chunky pieces for little hands, so your 2 year old will enjoy playing with the bricks, door, windows and wheels and when it's time for something more educational the alphabet bricks come into their own. There's a child figure and a cat in the set and this provides an excellent introduction to Lego as all the pieces of Duplo here will fit standard Lego bricks when your child gets older.

Beautiful bright and bold blocks, my daughter loves Duplo and this set is no exception! However the bizarre choice of pictures on some of the letters leaves her puzzled. Also some of the letters have no picture on at all. Nearly a perfect little set.
